Under10: This squad had a great day out on Saturday last but nobody could match Enda's strike rate at the bowling despite their best efforts to put him off. Christina Mc Mahon put some of the boys to shame with her bravery down the high slide 16 or 17 times she descended, and it was no fear too for Mark Murphy and Shane Kelly as the rocketed down the incline. In the pool Enda got his come-uppance when he ran out of steam in his 25mtr-breaststroke duel with namesake Niall. Pool officials said water level were at an all time high on Saturday evening for some unexplained reason!

A word of thanks to all parents who insured the timetable was adhered to by ferrying and collecting the youngsters to and at the Complex assembly point on time, and particularly to those who offered and assisted with supervision at the swimming pool. The final coaching session before they break for Christmas will be held on Saturday as usual at 10.o'clock, bring indoor and outdoor training gear.

Under 14 development Squad.
Three of our lads Brian Mc Quaid, Danny Mc Nally, and Mark Mc Guigan, were involved in a highly intensive coaching session at Cloghan on Saturday last. By all accounts they equipped themselves well, but if the grapevine is to be believed Mr Mc Guigan was particularly impressive, well done lad keep the club flag flying

Tragedy- It was with heartfelt sorrow + sadness that our club + community said farewell at funerals throughout last week to five young friends of ours, Brian O’Neill, Gary McCormack, Ciaran Hagan, Dermot Thornton and John McQuillan. A tragic accident that got national headlines but it was in our own small community where it was felt the most. They were all known to us all, characters in their own right and their presence amongst us will be greatly missed. It is however in their homes and with their family and friends that they will be missed most. We offer our deepest sympathy to the Thornton , Hagan ,O’Neill, McCormack + McQuillan families at this time and assure them of our thoughts + prayers over the coming days and months ahead. The club would like to thank all those who helped in any way with funeral arrangements, current players, former players + members who formed guards of honour. Thanks to those who organised and supervised the car parks, the church ushers, the ladies who provided and helped with refreshments in our complex. A special word of appreciation to our priests Fr Coffey + Fr McCluskey for there help + encouragement. A special club mass for Dermot, John, Brian, Gary and Ciaran will be held on Tuesday 14th November @ 8 pm. Ar Dheis de go raibh nanamacha.

Results: U.15 Seans 1 - 12 Ballybay 5 -6
Fixtures; U15. Clones V Seans (A) Sat 4th Nov 3.30p.m.
Coaching Sessions U.10 Saturday 10.00; U15 Wednesday 6.30pm;
Under10: Coaching as usual Saturday morning at 10 o clock, all involved are again reminded to bring both indoor/ outdoor gear and a change of clothing.
Under.15 Coaching for this squad continues on Wednesday evening at 6.30 sharp.
These lads opened their campaign on Monday last when Ballybay were visitors to TMH. In the opening half our lads assisted by a stiff breeze led by 1- 7 to 0- 3 at the interval, the goal, a gem from Shane Larkin. In this half too Paraic Mc Guirk hit the best score of the game a glorious point from all of 50mtrs out along the sideline.
After the break Ballybay reduced the deficit with two early point and an opportunistic goal after indecision in our defence and they followed up with a converted penalty goal. Larkin, Mark Mc Guigan, Danny Mc Nally, and Brian Mc Quaid added points for the Seans. But gaping hole were beginning to appear in our defence despite the best efforts of our man of the match corner back Ashley Maguire. Things didn't improve when a high lofted free from sixty metres out caught the breeze and also caught out our keeper and defenders to end up in the net, the visitor's scented victory, and we were in for a hectic last few minutes. A misdirected pass was punished with another green flag for the visitors, our lads never gave up and went in search of and a similar score at the other end only to see that attack breaking down. Ballybay with men over punished the mistake with their fifth goal, to secure the two points in this keenly contested and entertaining game. The squad were very disappointed at the way this game turned, they know there is plenty of room for improvement in a panel which oozes ability. Only Ashley Maguire Brian Mc Quaid and Shane Larkin could be happy with their displays. Knowing the commitment and character of these lads, one suspects this game will have blown away the cobwebs, and we can expect a much better level of performance for their next outing on Saturday 4th Nov. in Clones, throw in 3.30.Bus leaves Corcaghan 2.15 and Complex 2.30. Support is encouraged .

Results: U.13 Seans 3 -15.Magheracloone 2- 12
Fixtures; U15. Latton V Seans Sat 21st Oct. at 11.00a.m.
Coaching Sessions U.10 Saturday 10.00; U15 Wednesday 6.30pm;
Under10: Coaching as usual Saturday morning at 10 o clock, all involved are again reminded to bring both indoor/ outdoor gear and a change of clothing.
Under 13: In there last competitive game these young lads served up their best performance of the year against a very capable Magheracloone team on Saturday evening last. From the first whistle the Seans went about their business in a very determined manner. Although facing bigger opponents at midfield Jamie Mc Elvaney and Shane Larkin exerted their dominance from the start.
In goals Enda Mc Quillan was superb and but for a few nasty deflections would have kept a clean sheet. The defence worked tirelessly and were superbly marshalled by Stephan Mc Carron at full back, with Pierce Murphy and Conor Freeman in the corners never yielding an inch against very speedy opponents.
The halfback line of Conor Kearns, Dwayne Mc Caffrey and James Mc Aleer had the better of the exchanges throughout against very skillfull opposition. A feature of their defensive play was never given the ball away to the opposition when in possession.
The half-forward line of Shane Hagen, James Connolly and Adrian Prunty gave their respective markers a torrid time and their skill in possession and their running off the ball showed maturity beyond their years. The full forward line of Pauric Coyle, Colin Mc Elvaney and Sean Freeman again showed promisingly for every ball and completed countless moves with some very fine scores. Cian Treanor when introduced in the second half showed the management why he should have been included from the start.
Their managers Enda Murphy and Martin Kieran would like to thank these lads for their excellent behaviour throughout this competition and for the commitment and determination they showed in all their games.
Under.15 Coaching for this squad continues on Wednesday evening at 6.30 sharp. The format for the Under 15 competition see us in the same section as Ballybay Latton and Clones. Fixtures for this weekend are Latton V Seans Sat at 11a.m. and Ballybay V Clones the round of games for weekending 29th Seans V Ballybay; and Clones V Latton will be played on Sunday as the County U15. Fixtures; U13. Seans (H) V Magheracloone Sat 14th Oct. at 4.00pm

Under10: Coaching as usual Saturday morning at 10 o clock, all involved are again reminded to bring both indoor/ outdoor gear and a change of clothing
Under 13: On Saturday last this team travelled to Latton and came away with their first league points in an entertaining and very closely contested game, our lads just shading things by two points at the finish. Jamie Mc Elvaney was in outstanding form producing a man of the match performance, not far behind was Shane Larkin who worked tirelessly over the hour. Stephen Mc Carron was very solid in the full back berth and never yielded against a much taller opponent. Up front Sean Freeman bagged both goals and he got good support from Shane Hagan, Colin Mc Elvaney, and Dwayne Mc Caffrey all three working their socks off to keep the home side at bay. Their final league outing is on Saturday next when Magheracloone are visitors to TMH for the usual 4 o' clock start.
Under 14 Development Squad. All club representatives on this squad should note their next get together is Tuesday 17th Oct at TMH at 6.00. Last Saturday game saw the West just edging out the North by the slenderest of margins, although the result is unimportant the emphasis being on teamwork and team performance, by all accounts our reps. showed up well.
Under.15 Good news here is that the Under 15 competition is definitely a runner although it maybe some what revised from the original proposal, full details should be to hand shortly. Coaching for this squad continues on Wednesday evening at 6.30 sharp
U.18 From the final score line one would never suspect that Donaghmoyne were more than lucky to go into extra time. That's football and our lads learned on Sunday last that sometimes it can be a cruel game. In a pulsating entertaining and very competitive opening sixty minutes our lad were left to rue squandering numerous scoring chances including the agony of watching a penalty go wide in the first half. Despite the lopsided look of the scoreboard in the end, all the panel have on this occasion to be commended for their efforts. Paraic Mc Guirk had a mighty game at corner back seldom beaten he used his strength to great effect, he got good support from John Kearns Stephen Hurson, Seamus Conaty, Christopher Hughes and Fergal Mullan. Conal Mc Crudden caught the eye repeatedly in a midfield area where he, Conor Mc Elvaney and Wayne Connolly had to work very hard to curb the aerial ability of Donaghmoyne's Francis Markey. Up front Darren Keely, Donal Mc Entee and Murt Cleere were always in the thick of things. On a day when things just didn't go right for our dynamic duo of Patrick Kieran and Noel Rice they were our chief score getters. Enda Mc Entee, Patrick Royce, Aaron Dolan and David Mc Entee all tried hard when introduced.
Cumann na mBunscoil. St Michael's completed their programme on Tuesday last and suffered the agony of a late winner being scored against when visitors Glaslough raise a green flag in the dying seconds of the game to take both points. The team were very disappointed, as it was the second time in as many weeks that this opposition has inflicted this type of "robbery" on these lads. Although ending up on the wrong side of the result it was a much improved performance from their last outing and one which every member of the panel can be proud of.
This week St Mary's travel for their return game with Gransha, and will be hoping for a similar outcome as their first encounter.

Seans Notes 05-10-2006

Seniors- the first team travelled to Aghabog on Sunday last and came away with a one point victory. Goal scorers on the day Gary Larkin + Nigel McQuillan.

C’s- this squad made their exit from this competition on Sat afternoon when they went down to a strong Clones outfit. This concludes their programme of fixtures for the season. Well done to all who took part with this team. Only for this squad there wouldn’t have been a senior team on a lot of occasions this year.

Coaching Sessions
U.10 Saturday 10.00; U13 &; U15 Wednesday 6.30pm;U18.Fri 8.00pm.
Under10: Coaching as usual Saturday morning at 10 o clock, all involved are reminded to bring both indoor/ outdoor gear
Under 13&15: Combined-coaching sessions for these squads on Wednesday evenings at 6.30 clock sharp. On Saturday last our under 13 team were put under the cosh by visitors Truagh in the first half of their encounter and looked like another heavy defeat was on the cards. Thanks to a stern interval pep talk and a much more determined effort by all players they mustered a mini revival outscoring the visitors by 8 points to nil. And although they had several chances to maybe snatch victory the Gaels held out for a two goal winning margin thank to that early first half dominance.
Some doubt surrounds whether the U.15 competition will get off the ground at this late stage as scheduled earlier rounds have already been lost for various reasons. The County Committee will no doubt make a decision on that issue this week.
U.18 Good news for our minor squad their long awaited semi-final takes place on Sunday at 12.30 when they travel to Donaghmoyne to take the table toppers there.
In preparation for this match coaching is scheduled for Friday night at 8.00 all panellist are requested to attend, if there isn't a full turn out for this session! No I won't go there, lads don’t let your team-mates down be on the field 8 o clock tomorrow night
Cumann na mBunscoil. Last week at Kilmore the boys from St Mary's suffered the disappointment of a 2 point defeat at the hands of Tydavnet, They have a break from competitive action this week but will I'm sure be working hard on their skills and team play every chance they get.
St Michael's squad of; -Conor Kerans, Barney Cousley, James Mc Guirk, Ronan O' Reilly, Kaine Treanor, Patrick Mc Cabe, Ryan O' Neill, Pauric Coyle, Niall Kearns, Aidan Ward, Shane Farrell, Gareth Mc Guirk, Dylan Mc Nally, Kevin Mc Mahon, Mathew Mc Guirk, Adam Counihan, travelled to Donaghamoyne on Wed. last for a return fixture with Lisdoonan. An away win here would see them well placed for qualification with their remaining fixture a home one with Glaslough on Wednesday 11th October. On the same day too St Mary's are scheduled to play Gransha away. We wish both schools well and encourage as many parents as possible to lend them their support at these games. Spare a thought for young Conor Kearns who has produced stirling performances at midfield in the open sequence of matches, but because of a niggling injury and on medical advice can only sit and watch his St Michael's team-mates complete their programme of games much to his very obvious annoyance and frustration.

From the opening two games in this competition it appears as if we should have been down in a lower division, having suffered two heavy defeats at the hands of Emyvale and the Aughnamullen/Blackhill combination last week. Lads who are eligible to compete not turning out do not help our cause, but hopefully that will change for this weeks game when Truagh are visitors to TMH on Saturday for a 4o'clock start.
Under 15: Coaching for these lads continues on Wednesday evenings at 7 O' clock.
Last weeks game with Monaghan Harps was postponed due to the U.16 Championship and this week they have a bye. They have plenty of time therefore to prepare for their opening game in Carrick next week. But a full turnout of all eligible youngsters to the arranged coaching sessions is imperative, if not, a review of our ability to participate in this competition will almost certainly have to be made.
Cumann na mBunscoil. At Emyvale last week the boys from St Michael's Corcaghan were very disappointed when they were caught by a late late goal from Glaslough to end up losing an enthralling game by a single point. Despite the defeat in atrocious weather conditions these lads put up a great performance. Those who caught the eye were the Kearns brothers Conor and Niall who were in outstanding form in the middle of the field. Patrick Mc Cabe rattled the net with the finesse of a veteran and led the attack like a lion. James Mc Guirk raised a green flag with a mighty strike from the middle of the field. Barney Causley was sure and sound in the goals, and he got good covered from Aidan Ward and Ryan O'Neill in the defence Their next outing is away to Lisdoonan on Oct 4th.
St Mary's TMH open their programme with a win in a fourteen-goal thriller against Gransha. Ryan Mc Guinness was in good form between the sticks. Dylan Keenan Pierce Murphy, Enda Connolly and James Mc Carron held their own in the defence against very tricky opponents. James Mc Aleer was a colossus in the middle of the field and the forward trio of Mc Elvaney, Mc Entee and Gleeson all raised green flags. Next outing is Thur. 27th at 2 o' clock in Kilmore when Tydavnet are the opposition. Space permitting full details of both schools panels next week.

St Mary's also open their campaign this week when Gransha make the journey to TMH. Games involving our two schools are schedule for Wednesday's at 12.30, as nurseries for future Sean's teams we would encouraged anyone who can especially parents to give these youngsters and their teachers encouragement and support particularly on match days.

Seans Notes 14-09-2006

Seniors- on Sunday afternoon we were involved in a very entertaining championship clash with Corduff. This was definitely a game that was there for the taking and all looked well as we went in at half time four points to the good with Gary Larkin finishing off some good Seans team work by slamming the ball to the net. The second half simply didn’t go our way. After being reduced to 14 men the wheels seemed to come off as we conceded two goals within a couple of minutes. Corduff ran out eventual winners by 4 points.

Under 13: Coaching for this squad continues on Tuesday evenings at 7 O' clock sharp. With their first outing scheduled for next Saturday at 4.00 p.m. away to Emyvale it's important that everyone eligible and interested in playing in this competition attend these Tuesday evening sessions. These lads have a full league programme over the next five weeks with Aughnamullen/Blackhill (A) Truagh (H) Latton (A) Magheracloone (H) providing the opposition each week up until Sat14th October.
U14 Development Squad: Mark, Jonathan, Gavin, Francis, Danny, and Brian are asked to note that this squad have a get together at TMH on Tuesday evening next commencing at 5.30.

Their league programme commences a weekend later than the U13's. On Sunday 24th September they have Monaghan Harps as visitors to TMH for a 12.30 throw in.
Again eligible and interested participants are encouraged to attend their mid week coaching session.
Under 18: Top four league table positions are still incomplete but it appears that this squad will claim one of the semi-final spots up for grabs. Until the final positions are determined it's important that everyone on this panel attend the coaching sessions which are held on Tue.and Thurs nights at 8.00pm. To facilitate maximum attendance these time and days may change, panellists should always double check with team mentors regarding future session times. Winning this league may be a bridge to far for our team, but it would be a great pity now having qualified, that they let this opportunity pass without making every effort to do so. That effort begins by everyone attending training.

Gremlins somewhere along the line made our note disappear last week. These lads worked hard last week when holding Clontibret to a draw in the championship on a score line of 2 - 9 a piece In a very keenly and evenly contested game the slippery underfoot conditions was a factor. The quality of the football served up may have suffered but the same could not be said of the commitment or honest endeavour of both teams. The highlight from our viewpoint was a penalty conversion by Noel Rice, a second green flag from Darren Keely after his dazzling dribble rebounded off the upright and net minder. A sigh of relief from our supporters when custodian Niall Prunty must have intimidated the Clontibret's penalty taker sufficiently to force him to blast his shot wide of the target. Some good defensive play from Damien Clerkin, Donal Mc Entee Seamus Conaty and Co.when it was a case of all hands to the pump in the closing minutes as Clontibret pushed for a winner with their numerical advantage. The replay took place on Tuesday night at TMH see results elsewhere in this issue. The winners have a tough assignment in the next round away to Castleblaney on Tue 29th Aug. To progress to that stage our lads will have to produce the best football of the lives and curb their indiscipline tendency, which has already cost them dear on more that one occasion this year. If they can do that and do it they must, they could very well be renewing acquaintances with Nudie Hughes, and his Faugh outfit. Whatever the outcome of Tuesday night game they will be in action on Tue.29th .Win, they play C'blaney. Loose, they complete their league programme when Clones are visitors to TMH.

The game could have gone either way in the last few minutes as both teams launched alte raid son the oppositions goals in an effort to take all two points but all was in vain as the sides finished all square when the ref blew for full time. The next game for this squad is Sunday night when they take on Clones in the Championship in Scotstown

This squad had a good run out against Mosney bound Ulster champions Clontibret at TMH on Thursday evening last. Although ending up on the wrong side of a 4 -8 to 2 -6 score line this was a highly entertaining and competitive match, although the visitors greater cohesiveness from obvious more competitive action was the difference between the teams. All our youngsters equipped them selves well with James Mc Carron in great form as the shot stopper between the posts. The six defenders Niall Murphy, Enda Connolly, Martin Mc Guirk, Kyle Treanor, Dillon Keenan, Dillon Mc Nally all had their moments. Midfieders Yvonne Ward and Niall Kearns ran tirelessly over the hour. Up front Ryan Hughes Ryan Mc Entee, Shane Farrell Sean Grant Aidan Ward, Cristina Mc Mahon all tried hard to breech the Clontibret rearguard.
Coaching continues on Monday's at 6.00pm.everyone involved are asked to attend, as the distribution of medal to absentees from our exhibition match has to be completed and it is also planned to have at least one more competitive match before school resumes.
Under12
This squad were bitterly disappointed on Saturday evening last when they bowed out of the Division 2 competition beaten by Emyvale in the semi-final on a score line of Emyvale 3 -9 Seans 1 - 6. In the opening half both side tried hard to gain supremacy our lads just shading it by a single point at the interval 4 points to 3 but Emyvale had to thank their goalkeeper for a great save when a goal seemed certain in the last action of the half, leaving our lads with the slenderest of leads. Emyvale wind assisted struck quickly in the second half with a brace of goals, which try as the might our lads never, really recovered from. Kevin Mc Mahon did manage to rattle the Emyvale net, and despite the prompting of midfielder James Mc Aleer and Conor Mc Elroy that commanding Emyvale early second half lead was never really threatened and the bigger and stronger home side ran out comfortable winner in the end, Good luck to them in the final.
Well done to our panel and Mentors for progressing to this stage of the competition and serving up some lovely football in the process. The panel on semi-final duty was.
Sean Freeman, Conor Freeman, Pierce Murphy, Conor Kearns, Daniel Mc Carron, Dyane Mc Caffrey, David Mc Kenna James Mc Aleer, Kevin Mc Mahon, Niall Kearns Conor Mc Elroy, James Connolly Carl Moffet, Colin Mc Elvaney, Paul Bannon; Dillon Keenan, James Mc Guirk, Ronan O' Reilly, Ryan O' Neill, Christopher Mc Mahon

Sessions for these two age groups in preparation for their forth coming leagues commences on Tuesday 22nd Aug for the Under 13. And on Thurs 24th for the Under 15's starting time for both is 7 o' clock, all panellists are requested to attend.
Under 16
This squad were also eliminated from the U16 division 2 competion on Wednesday night last when an under strength home side were out classed by visitors Truagh and ended up on the wrong side of a 1 - 8 to 2 - 13 result. Although they did rally in the second half, they just couldn't over turn the first half lead and all involved were very disappointed that their season has come to an abrupt end.
Under 18.
These lads ran out comfortable winners over Aughnamullen when the sides met at TMH last week, despite dominating the early exchanges they found the visitors defence a hard nut to crack and it was only when Noel Rice raised two green flags in quick succession in the closing minutes of the first half that tension in the home camp were eased. In the second half Padraig Mc Guirk, Murt Cleere, Patrick Kieran, Darren Keeley, David Mc Entee, and Noel Rice all found the target. In defence goalkeeper Niall Prunty was very alert and he got good cover from all six defenders where corner back Stephen Hurson put in a man of the match performance.
But the mentors and panel will be well aware that they will have to perform at a higher level if they are to over come the challenge of Clontibret in the championship when they travel to O' Neill Park this week. Next Tuesday in their last league game they entertain Clones at TMH a win here would almost certainly see them progress to the knock out stages of this competition.

All roads lead to Emyvale on Saturday next when this squad travels to the Tully venue to take on the home side in the long awaited semi final at 4 PM. Our lads just shaded the issue when these sides met at TMH in the league, and they know they will have to be at their very best if they are to book a place in the final. We wish the panel and mentors all the best and we hope a big contingent of supporters will travel to give these young lads the encouragement they deserve.

This squad will now know if they have secured a semi-final spot or not, as last night (Wed) game against Truagh will almost certainly have determined who qualified. Over the week-end these lads had mixed fortunes in our U.16 Festival and Sports Football tournament, on Friday night they over came Clones in the first semi-final, but struggled against a rampant Shamrock side on Sunday evening in the final. Shamrock had overcome a young Latton side to earn a place in the Sunday decider. Although short a number of regulars the mentors involved will not be too perplex about Sunday's result and will no doubt have been glad of the extra couple of games as they try to achieve that elusive semi-final league spot
Under 18.
These lads had Aughnamullen as visitors to TMH on Tuesday evening last (check results elsewhere). Next Tuesday night 15th Aug they travel to Clontibret for a back door championship encounter with the locals. In their final league game on Aug 22nd they also have home advantage went Clones are visitors to TMH. As previous mentioned in this column these lads on their day are a match for anyone, hopefully they can show their true ability and potential in these three very important games over the coming weeks. I would invite our supporter to give this squad as much support and encouragement as they can in these matches.

No game this week as some of the unplayed fixtures are finally down for decision. Saturday 12th Aug has been pencilled in for the Semi-finals of this competition until then all panellists are asked to attend their scheduled weekly coaching sessions
Under 16
This squad had a good home win over Clones on Friday night last on a score line of Seans 3 - 8 Clones 2 - 5. No action this week as a number of unplayed games are down for decision which should give a much cleared view of league places. With one very crucial game remaining against Truagh which will almost certainly determine semi-final qualification or not it's important that they too all attend their weekly coaching sessions. These lads will get little or no break as plans are already at an advanced stage for a four team under 16 tournament on the festival weekend. Both semi-final will be held on Friday 4th Aug. with the winners going through to the final on the evening of the Sports day Sunday 6th.
Under 18.
As we move into the summer break this squad still has plenty of football to play an outing in the league at home to Aughnamullen, and another championship venture all be it through the back door. As mention previously in this column these lads are equal to anyone on their day but they must attend and put in the effort at their coaching get together.

Seans Notes 20-07-2006

Seniors.- this encounter with Doohamlet was in the end a tale of missed opportunities. A brave performance in sweltering conditions show us come out on the wrong end of a 2-11 to 3-07 scoreline. Goals on the day came from Gary Larkin and two from Nigel McQuillan. This can only encourage both supporters and players after a lacklustre performance against Emyvale last Weds evening

U-21’s- on Monday evening this squad played Clones in the final game of the League section of this competition. This proved to be an intense affair with the sides finishing level on a scoreline of 2-12 a piece. The goals on the night came from Paddy Kieran + Conor McElvaney. We will have to wait for other results to see if we procress further in this competition.

Keep Free- Monday the 7th of August is the big day for the annual Duck Race. Reports on the ducks training has been good and all are fit and well and expect to make the start line on the big day despite the recent spell of warm weather. This squad bowed out of the U14 Div.2 competition at Aughnamullen on Saturday last when they were beaten by the home side on a scoreline of Aughnamullen 2 - 14 Seans 0 -13. Sean opened the scoring with a point from play by Brian Mc Quaid in the 3rd minute. Two further Seans attacks failed to find the target before Aughnamullen opened their account with a converted close in free .A mix-up in our defence yielded an early Aughnamullen goal and they increased that lead with another close range free. Kevin Mc Mahon reduced the margin with two frees of his own, and Danny Mc Nally and Conor Mc Elroy found the range from play to level things up. Aughnamullen forged ahead again with a point from play through Niall Mooney, Sean's man of the match Mark Mc Guigan hit a glorious equalising point from all of 50metres. Over zealous tackling in our defence was punished by two accurate place kicks for Aughnamullen, Kevin Mc Mahon reduced the margin to a minimum with a point from play to leave the half time score Aughnamullen 1 - 5 Seans 0 -7.
Aughnamullen extended their lead when they hit their second goal minutes after the restart a great defence splitting solo run and a pile driver to net gave keeper Gavin Baxter no chance. They landed 3 unanswered points before Mark Mc Guigan closed the gap and kept Seans in touch with two points from play and a converted 20 metre free. Try as they did our lads couldn't over come those two goals and although Brian Mc Quaid, Mc Guigan and Kevin Mc Mahon all added points it wasn't enough as Aughnamullen also hit 3 points from play and 3 from frees to give them a comfortable seven points winning margin at the finish. Things just didn't go right for many of our lads and try as they might we only caught glimpses of the true ability of Brian Mc Quaid, Danny Mc Nally Jamie Mc Elvaney Shane Larkin and Kevin Mc Mahon all of whom had been very influential in getting this squad this far in the competition. On the day we had a 5 star performer in Mark McGuigan not far behind was Shane Hagan, Conor Mc Elroy, and Francis Mc Elvaney. Although bitterly disappointed at bowing out at the penultimate stage they and their coaches have to be congratulated on reaching the knock out stages in what was a very competitive division. The good news for all on this panel is that under 13 and under 15 competitions are scheduled to commence later in the year.
Under 16
With championship quarter-final scheduled for tomorrow night it unlikely that this squad will be in competitive action, although one of their two unplayed games may be pencilled in if either of there opponent in these game are also out of the championship. Check official fixture guide for details. Coaching session continue as usual and everyone is asked to make the effort to attend
Under 18.
Kilcloone make the long journey to TMH on Tue.25th July for a 7.30 throw in. Last week this squad overcame neighbours Emmett Sarsfield in a highly entertaining and very competitive game at Newbliss on a score line of Emmett Sarsfields 0 -9 Seans 1 -9 this was a much more workman like performance than their outing the pervious week in the championship and they will be hoping to continue in that grove when the Killanny/Magheracloone lads visit next week.

Sympathy. It was with sadness that we learned of the death of Paddy Mc Elvaney on Saturday morning last. Formerly from Cooldaragh, Paddy was a great lover of everything Irish especially our music and our Gaelic games he was a founder member of Ceoltas Ceoltori Eirinn. Although residing in Dublin for very many years he always maintained a keen interest in the footballing fortune of the Sean's club and the Monaghan County team. A great conversationalist, a real nice man, but sadly Paddy will read no more "letters from home" as he describe and regarded our weekly club notes column in this paper. To the Mc Elvaney family circle we extend our deepest sympathy. Go ndéana Dia trocaire ar a n ainm

Aughnamullen is the venue and also the opponents in the first semi-final at any level for the club in 2006 on Saturday next 15 Th. The 12 o' clock throw in at the Lough Egish venue is earlier than usual for Saturday games. Those intending to travel to support these youngsters and I hope there are many of you are asked to note the early starting time of noon. Our lads will have to be at their very best if they are to reverse the result of their previous league encounter at TMH when they went down by a 4point margin. But reverse it they can as this group of youngster have worked very hard under the watchful eyes of mentors Martin, Felix, and Eugene and have produced the best football of any team representing the club in their league campaign to qualify for this stage of the competition. We wish them well on Saturday and hopefully we will have a big turn out of supporters to cheer them on.

These lads are scheduled to travel to Carickmacross on Fri 14th July although at time of going to press this may be rearranged for the previous evening (tonight) Thurs. To enhance that chance it important that all the panel attend their scheduled coaching sessions.

Seans Notes 06-07-2006

Seniors.- on Sunday evening the seniors took on near neighbours Eire og in Threemilehouse. This was an intense game of football with the visitors springing into an early lead only for McDermotts to fight back to take the spoils, Scoring three goals . Two of these came in the first half from veteran Gary Larkin with Nigel McQuillan saving the best goal of all to the end with a strike that would not have been out of place in Germany at the moment.

U-21’s- this squad had their second outing of the competition on Monday evening when they travelled to Tyholland. They started brightly but trailed at half time after conceding two goals on a scoreline of 2-4 to 0-8. The second half was a different story with the Seans getting two goals of their own, one from Mark Keogh from a penalty and the other from Patrick Kieran. Tyholland fought back well and we managed to hold on for a two point win.

Congratulations- to Grace Baxter on her great achievement on winning a gold and silver medals at the Special Olympics in Belfast.

These lads had a good win over Shamrocks the Eire Og /Tyholland combination at TMH on Friday evening last. Our lads started sluggishly and found themselves 5points adrift mid way through the first half, but showed character and resilience to go in at the break with a 4 point advantage. That turnaround was sparked by fine performances from Padraic Mc Guirk, Daragh Freeman and Daren Keeley and by a very impressive Donal Mc Guigan who gave a man of the match performance from his position at corner back. In the second half as more and more of our lads got to grips with the pace of the game and with greater team cohesion they ran out comfortable winners in the end. Next competitive action is away to Carickmacross on Fri 14th July
Under 18.
This squad were forced to settle for a share of the spoils when Inniskeen reversed the venue and visited TMH last week. Elementary errors cost our lads dearly as Inniskeen with time almost up latched on to one of these to tap the ball over the bar from close range to tie up the match. They had a tricky assignment against Donaghmoyne in the Championship on Tue last a game that they are well capable of winning if they play to their potential (See result elsewhere). On Tue 11th July they make the short journey up the road to Killeevan to take on The Aghabog/ Killeevan combination at 7.30.

This squad secured a semi-final spot when they gained the league points required from Ballybay last Saturday, but a number of unplayed games will have to be decided before the final league positions and their opponents are known. The semi- finals are scheduled to be played on Saturday 8th July. Coaching will intensify until then, Tuesdays at 6.30 and Saturday at 5.00. All panellists are asked to make a special effort to attend these sessions. On Tuesday evening they over came Emyvale on a scoreline of Seans 2 - 7 Emyvale 2 - 5. Emyvale struck first blood when they netted after only 2 minutes, Kevin Mc Mahon kept Seans in touch when he landed two free before James Connolly restored parity with a point from play in the 14th minute. Mc Mahon showed his accuracy from place balls when he lofted two 45 metre free the results of sustained Seans offensives to give the home side a two point advantage at the break. Emyvale were again fastest out of the blocks and regained the lead with a well taken goal, but that was short lived as Carl Moffet was on hand to breech the visitors rearguard to calmly slot the ball to the net. Emyvale tagged on 2 point to level things for a second time before James Connolly restored the homester's 1 point advantage Emyvale responded in like manner. Then in the best move of the match involving Conor Kearns Daniel Mc Carron who combined well to release James Connolly, who carried and put Kevin Mc Mahon in the clear to rattle the Emyvale net from close range. To their credit Emyvale never gave in and again reduced the deficit to the minimum before Mc Mahon returned the compliment to Connolly to land the insurance point as time ticked out on the visitors. This was a pulsating match with the result in doubt right up to the final whistle, Conor Kearns was the star man in the first half while Kevin Mc Mahon donned that mantle in the second period not far behind these two were Carl Moffett, James Mc Aleer, Colin Mc Elvaney, Dwyane Mc Caffrey, Pierce Murphy, Daniel Mc Carron, Enda, and James Connolly, Conor Freeman, Paul Bannon and Aidan Ward when introduced

This panel travels to Donaghmoyne on Tuesday evening next to take on the locals in the preliminary round of the championship. In a very entertaining and competitive earlier league encounter the spoils were shared so we can expect something similar on Tuesday. Our lads are well capable of getting a result but they will have to play to the very best if the are to over come a very strong Donaghmoyne outfit. This is probably one of the best minor panel to represent the club over the last few years as Wayne Connolly. Seamus Conaty, Donal Mc Entee, Fergal Mullan, Noel Rice, Patrick Kieran, Christopher Hughes have shown by claiming their places on our U21 side.
Developing Referees
Volunteers whistle blowers Donal Mc Entee Damien Clerkin Patrick Royce and Enda Mc Entee have a early 9.30 Saturday morning appointment for a rules briefing from club referee Noel Corrigan. This squad have a busy schedule over the next few weeks with a game on Saturday at TMH when Clones provide the opposition and on Tuesday evening next they make the journey to Donaghmoyne. As always we would encourage as much support as possible to turn out at least for our home games. On Tuesday last they made the trip to Latton for their opening game in the second round of this competition. They will be hoping to reverse the result of this corresponding game at TMH, to see how they got on check the results elsewhere in this issue.
Under 14.
This outfit struggled to over come Latton in the first half of Saturday's encounter at TMH, wind assisted they lead the visitors by two points on a scoreline of Seans 0 - 8 Latton 0 - 6 at the break. All that changed minutes after the restart when Brian Mc Quaid fired a thunderbolt to the Latton net and when Danny Mc Nally repeated the dose three minutes later our lads were on their way. In between those two strike Shane Larkin landed a beautiful point after some good approach play. Kevin Mc Mahon raised another white flag after an elusive solo run down the middle and good inter changes with Conor Mc Elroy and Mathew Mc Cabe. Brian Mc Quaid landed a long-range point before finding the net when Mark Mc Guigan from his pivotal position at centre back broke up a treatening Latton attack, to set the gangling Mc Nally/Mc Quaid midfield duo on their way. Shane Hagan Adrian Prunty and Shane Larkin combined well to set up Kevin Mc Mahon to put the home side out of sight with a well-taken goal. Latton to their credit despite that early second half setback battle bravely and were duly rewarded when they found the Seans net, despite the best efforts of goalkeeper Gavin Baxter who showed quick reflexes to parry the first shot but he could do nothing to prevent the in rushing forward slam the ball to the net. Shane Larkin added two more points and Jamie Mc Elvaney completed the scoring with a fine point after moving forward from his fullback berth. This was an excellent second half performance, with all sixteen players equipping themselves well. The team on duty was Gavin Baxter, James Mc Aleer, Jamie Mc Elvaney, Francis Mc Elvaney, Stephen Mc Carron, Mark Mc Guigan, Dwayne Mc Caffrey, Brian Mc Quaid, Danny Mc Nally, Shane Hagan, Shane Larkin, Conor Mc Elroy, Adrian Prunty Kevin Mc Mahon, Mathew Mc Cabe, Subs Conor Mc Cormick for Brian Mc Quaid.

This squad had a good win over Ballybay on Thursday last at TMH on a scoreline of 5 -7 to 3 - 6. Seans raced into an early first half lead but Ballybay came out with all guns blazing in the second half and it took a couple of fine saves from James Mc Carron to keep Ballybay out. Our lads played some lovely football and landed a few great score to put them well ahead at the finish. There were outstanding performances fromPierce Murphy, David Mc Kenna, Conor Kearns, Dwayne Mc Caffrey, James Mc Aleer, Conor Mc Elroy, Kevin Mc Mahon, James Connolly

This squad entertain Latton on Saturday at TMH at 4.o' clock. I know it’s the exam period but it's disappointing to record a poor response from this squad to their coaching sessions last week. As one who has witnessed the structure and substance in these sessions I would definitely be encouraging our minor players not to miss them. They will enjoy them and I would have though they would be a welcome release from the stress and worry of study at least for an hour or so. By attending you give encouragement not only to yours team-mates but your coaches as well so don't let them down!! Please be there.
Juvenile Fund raiser
Lines to forecast the winners of Sam Maguire and Liam Mc Carthy are currently on sale. Kerry to win the hurling and Kilkenny to win the football may seem to many a strange prediction, not so!!! Now there's a person who has embraced what this fun exercise is all about …raising a few bob for juvenile development. But for the more serious pundits who really do know their football and hurling there is a chance to walk away with half the takings.

Adult Teams- on Sunday we travelled to Cremartin in the Intermediate League to play the home side on a very wet and cold day. The conditions left this a difficult game for both sides but fortunately we came out on the right side of a 3-10 to 2-4 scoreline. Short a number of regulars this was a good team performance with a few of the boys playing in positions that they would not be accustomed to. The goals on the day came from Colin Murphy (2) and Damien Larkin. This gives good encouragement to the squad before our first outing in the Championship against Doohamlet in Scotstown @ 7:45 on Sunday evening.

Coaching continues for this panel on Mondays at 6 p.m they are asked to note for this week only there will be no Saturday morning session, instead they have a get together this evening Thur. at 6 o' clock. With skill levels improving all the time it is hoped that these youngsters will soon be able to take part in a programme of internal matches on Saturdays, But how soon these games start is dependent on everyone participating having adequate skills to do so. Its practice practice and more practice.

This panel's home game against Ballybay scheduled for Saturday has been brought forward to tonight (Thur) at TMH with a 7.30 starting time. They will be anxious to get back to winning ways and keep their chance of qualifying for the knock out stages of this competition alive. It wont be easy but hopefully as many parents as possible will turn out to give them as much support and encouragement as possible.

This squad travelled to Donaghmoyne on Saturday last, where, despite star performances from Mark Mc Guigan and Jamie Mc Elvaney they were very disappointed to be caught by a late Fontenoy goal which sealed victory for the home side when the 2 points seem to be heading our way. Had they shown the same urgency in the first half as they did in the second they would not have been overhauled. Coaching continues on Wednesday evenings at 6.30
U14 Development Squad. The lads born in 1992 are reminded to keep free 6th-10th June for intensive daily coaching sessions with FDM Dermot Mc Ardle at Monaghan Harps grounds from 2.00 to 4.30 each afternoon. The six lads participating are Danny Mc Nally, Francis Mc Elvaney, Mark McGuigan, Gavin Baxter, Jonathan Bannon, and Brian Mc Quaid.

This team travelled to Clontibret on Friday evening last and after a low-key first half performance the found themselves in arrears at half time 2 - 6 to 0 - 2. Thing changed in the second half when they restricted the home side to just two points as our lads relished the tough exchanges but time ran out on them and they ended up on the losing side on a final scoreline of Clontibret 2 - 8 Seans 1 - 10.This was always a very sporting game despite its sometimes physical nature and our lads can consider themselves unlucky not to take at least a share of the spoils. They will be hoping for a change in fortune after the exam break, as they need to tag on another few league points if they are to feature in the final shake of this competition. Coaching continues as usual on Sunday evenings.
Under.18
Coaching for these lads continue on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 8.00.Its important that everyone on this panel make the effort to attend. By attending you give encouragement to yours coaches and team-mates alike so don't let them down!! Be there.

Our U10 team had mixed fortunes last week. On Monday they made a successful trip to Inniskeen and in a closely contested game came away with their second win in this Community Games competition. On Thursday evening they had Carrickmacross as visitors to Pairc S Mac D. and despite owning the ball for much of the first half they failed to convert their plentiful possession into scores, and found themselves in arrears at the break. Damon Hagan did manage to find the Carrick net in the second half but it wasn't enough to close the gap and the visitors ran out comfortable winners in the end. The panel on duty was Gareth Mc Guirk, Niall Murphy, Aidan Ward, Cristina Mc Mahon, Kyle Treanor, Brionáin Mc Aleer, Jamie Keenan, Ryan Mc Entee, Niall Kearns, Cathal Mc Phillips Shane Farrell, Sean Grant, Jason Kieran Dillon Mc Nally, Patrick Mc Phillips, Jack Brennan, Damon Hagan, Darren Morgan. The game was well refereed by Enda Murphy who was impartiality personified, and no doubt our clubs' referee recruitment officer will be keeping a watching brief as he cast his net for potential competent referees, Enda definitely fits the bill and is one for his short list. Tonight (Thur) at TMH they have home advantage when they complete their final fixture against Tydavnet at 7 p.m. There is no coaching session this Saturday as some of these youngsters have a more important engagement on Saturday morning, next session Monday at 6pm.
Under12
This panel entertained Donaghmoyne on Saturday last and the visitors proved why they are regarded as the best team in this division when they raced into a 1 - 2 to 3 - 7 interval lead. It looked as if we were heading for a hiding, but a stern half time "pep talk" had the desired effect and what a transformation. Our lads started playing with much more determination and purpose. Three early second half points was quickly follow by a well taking goal, the deficit now down to five and the visitors still hadn't raised a flag. One can only wonder how the game would have ended had a rasper from James Mc Aleer midway through the half hit the net and not the crossbar after a great passage of interpassing. This was the let off Donaghmoyne needed, our lads were visibly tiring but to their credit they kept up their relentless attack. Donaghmoyne were slowly but surely regaining their composure and their shooting boots and notched up a 1 - 3 second half tally. There is no doubt Donaghmoyne were worthy winner largely due to that first half performance but our lads must be given great credit for that second have revival when the outscored the visitors. That revival was sparked by Conor Mc Elroy who was at the centre of everything, James Mc Aleer was also well to the fore as McElroy's partner in the middle of the field, and his shot on the target was a real screamer. Pierce Murphy, Conor Kearns the Freeman brothers Conor and Sean and Dwane Mc Caffrey were very solid in defence while in attach Colin Mc Elvaney, James Connolly, Carl Moffet and Patrick Mc Cabe never stooped trying.
Under 14.
Having recorded their first win in their last outing our U.14's will be anxious to continue with that winning formula, but as numbers on this panel are small its important that they give themselves that chance by insuring all panellists are available for Saturdays 4 o'clock start against Emyvale Under 16.
This squad bowed out of the U16 championship when they were out scored by Farney Gaels the Carrick/Corduff combination at Pairc Emmett on Friday last. Although notching up a very creditable tally of 4 - 10 and putting in a courageous display it just wasn't enough against the cream of the south county town and their neighbours. Its back to league action on Friday night at TMH when Clones provide the opposition for a 7.30 throw in. Again we request and encourage your support for our under age teams especially when playing at home.
Under18
Our Minor side played Clones on Tuesday evening last see result elsewhere this issue. As they are not involved in the preliminary round of the minor championship (23rd May) and with the exam break almost upon us this squads next competitive action is away to Inniskeen on 27th June. That’s 7 weeks away so lads please continue to attend the twice weekly senior training sessions, I'm not suggesting you neglect your revision/studies for the exams but keep your hand in there is still a lot of football to be played once action resumes in June.

This squad recorded their first win in the Community Games U.10 competition when they accounted for Tullycorbett last week. Brionán Mc Aleer struck a brace of goals despite suffering the effect of jetlag Sean Grant rowed in with one from a free, all in all a much improved display from the whole panel. This week they played Inniskeen on Monday night while tonight Thursday they have Carrickmacross as visitors to Pairc S Mac D. for a 7 o' clock start. What a score line Emmett Sarsfields 3 -14 Seans 5 -8. Either team having bag so many scores would have expected to win the day ,no so. Conal Mc Crudden was outstanding causing all sorts of bother at the heart of the home defence."Bomber" was mentioned by one mentor in describing the full forwards display. Not far behind Conal was Patrick Royce at midfield, Patrick over the hour insured a steady supply of ball to his forwards. In the second half Padraic Mc Guirk was also very solid when deployed in the centre of the defence in an effort to thwart the Aghabog Killevan onslaught. He got good support from David Mc Carville, Darren Keley and Patrick Greenan equipped himself very well when introduced.

Under12 This squad gained their first league points when they defeated Clones in a high scoring game on Sat.last. These lads equipped themselves very well playing with great cohesion to notch up this all-important first win.
Under 14.
This outfit had a good run out against Eire Og earlier this week in preparation for their game with Clones. Like most of our under age panels, participating numbers are small, so its vitally important that all members attend arranged coaching sessions and scheduled games. Sat. game has a 4p.m. start; bus departs Corcaghan 2.50 and complex 3.00.
Under 16.
On Friday evening they make the short journey up the road to take on the Aghabog/ Killeevan combination for a 7.30 throw in.
Under18
With the preliminary round of the championship getting under way on Tue.25th April this squad next outing is a home one against Clones on 2nd May.
Support.
With our U10, 14, and 16 all with competitive matches this week we would encouraged as many parents as possible to attend these games and give these youngsters and their coaches as much support as possible.

Well done to all parents and family member who made the effort to attend our underage games since the campaigns commenced last week. I would encourage more parents to attend these matches, Its great for these youngsters to have the consolation of a "well done" from a parent when the result doesn't go their way. Even better if daddy and/or mammy preferably both are there to offer a word of congratulation and share in the joy of winning when victory is achieved.
Referees
While encouraging greater numbers to attend our under age matches I would remind everyone to respect the referee. Any kind of abusive language or behaviour directed towards the man in the middle no matter how trivial cannot be tolerated, and its up to all of us to remind each other of this when we sometimes loose the run of ourselves. Under10.
This crew continues to forgo a lie in on Saturday mornings to attend their coaching session at 10 O' clock. Competitive matches via the Community Games Gaelic Football competition commenced last week with a journey to Cremartin to play Clontibret. Although comprehensively beaten on the scoreboard these little uns never gave up trying. Brionán Mc Aleer, and Niall Kearns were star performers with Jamie Keenan, Garth Mc Guirk, Rian Mc Entee and team captain Aidan Ward not far behind. With a games programme away to Inniskeen and Tullycorbet and home to Carrickmacross and Tydavnet over the next four weeks, it's important that the skills coached on Saturday's are practised during the week.
Reminder: the indoor facilities are not always available so it important that each child has a change of dry clothing with them, just in case it's needed. U.18.
Seans 1 - 6 Donaghmoyne 0 - 9. Played at Pairc SMD last week this was an entertaining and very competitive game. The home side had to work overtime to cope with the aerial ability of county man Seamus Markey in the middle of the field, but they did so manfully with Wayne Connolly, Seamus Conaty, Damien Clerkin, and Enda Mc Entee particularly effective. Noel Rice was as usual our very vocal playmaker but in between the verbals he pushed his side to a one point interval lead by hitting one from play and two from frees, Darren Keely chipped in also with a very good point from play.
Donaghmoyne were soon on level terms after the restart, and went two point up before Conor Mc Elvaney slotted over a 20metre free having taking over that duty from the injured Rice. Donaghmoyne continued to force the pace thanks to the industry of Markey and an ever-threatening Paraic Donaghy at full forward. With the clock ticking down and Donaghmoyne three points to the good, Patrick Kieran and a resuscitated Rice were sprung from the bench and both combined brilliantly for the latter to lash the ball to the net giving the keeper no chance. With time almost up from play Patrick Kieran landed what many thought would be the winner. However in injury time an awarded free out was sacrificed after an indiscretion by a Seans defender from the resultant hop ball Donaghmoyne gained possession found the target and earned a valuable league point. This was a harsh lesson, but one if learned, will stand this panel in good stead as they have the ability to compete with the best and even challenge for honours in this competition.
U.16 Kilcloone 1- 14 Seans 1-5.
Deprived of the services of several key players through illness and injury, this squad travelled to Killanny with just the bare fifteen. Although suffering a heavy defeat there were outstanding performers in Darren Keely, and Donal Mc Guigan both never stopped trying, they got best assistance from Patrick Royce David Mc Entee and Rory Lyden. Our U.16's have home advantage on Friday night when Truagh visit Pairc SMD for a 7.15 start.
U.14 Seans 1 - 10 Aughnamullen 2 - 11
This panel had their first taste of competitive action on Saturday last, and they put up a gallant effort before going down by a four-point margin to much bigger and stronger Aughnamullen side. Goalkeeper Adrian Prunty was agile and alert and couldn't be faulted for the two shot that beat him. Jamie Mc Elvaney gave a fine performance at fullback and he got good support from Conor Kearns and Stephen Mc Carron in the corners. James Mc Aleer, Francis Mc Elvaney, and Dwayne Mc Caffrey gave it everything in the have back line. At midfield Brian Mc Quaid and Mark Mc Guigan worked tirelessly and smartly to combat the height advantage Aughnamullen had in this area. Up front our diminutive forwards Enda Mc Quillan, Conor Mc Elroy, Shane Hagan, Cian Treanor, Shane Larkin, and Conor Mc Cormick all played with fierce tenacity and no small measure of ball carrying skill. That skill and determination was very adequately demonstrated by Shane Larkin who picked up a lovely pass from midfielder Mc Quaid, beat two opponents before neatly tucking the ball just in side the post for a great goal and one of the best move of the match.

Adult Teams-.on Sunday we played the first game of the league against Clones on the new field. Thankfully we christened the field with a hard fought four point win. We found it hard going early on and made the extra man advantage tell in the end as we pressed forward to seal the victory. The highlight of the game was a spectacular goal from Colin Murphy. With a number of men out at the moment through injuries there were a few players stepping up for their chance in the first team and acquitted themselves well. Team – J Treanor, C Connolly, E Clerkin, N Rice, F McKenna, P Kieran, N Lynch, C Connolly, G McEntee, A Larkin, D Larkin, P McPhillips, B McGuinness, D Treanor, M Kieran, Subs- E Coyle, Colin Murphy, Ciaran Murphy

Minor; Clontibret 1-7 …Seans 0- 8
Our minor squad had their opening game in the U18 Division 2 competition against Clontibret last week. They matched the home side in all sections of the field, which put the result in doubt right to the final whistle. They were very disappointed to eventually go down by a two-point margin. On Tuesday last they had Donaghmoyne as visitors to Pairc Sheáin Mhic Dhiarmada they will be hoping that their first home game will be a winning one. See results elsewhere in this issue. Team mentors Patrick and Padraig will have a bit of time to hone the skills and fitness level of this squad as they have a bye on Tue. 11th April. On Tue 18th April they travel to Emyvale for a 7.30 throw in. Well done to Noel Rice, who put in a staring performance for the intermediate team on Sunday, hopefully he can produce that same good form for our minor outfit. U.16; Seans 3 - 10 Emyvale 3 - 12 Our Under 16 outfit entertained Emyvale in the opening round of the Division 2 competition, both team struggled to come to terms with the wide open spaces of our new pitch. Seans dominated the early exchanges and should have been further ahead at the half way stage of the opening half poor finishing letting them down, Emyvale rallied and but for some good goal keeping by a very alert Patrick Royce the visitors would have been well ahead at the break. It was all square at the start of the second half, wind assisted Emyvale began to take control, and while defenders Mark Mc Guigan, Darren Mc Caffrey, Ashley Maguire. Rory Lyden, Danny Mc Nally and Darragh Freeman (until injured) individually all had their moments, collectively they struggled to come to terms with the ball carrying skills of the Emyvale attack. Midfielder Paraic Mc Guirk stood out, trying his best throughout to stem the black tide, while up front Darren Keeley, John Kearns, Brian Mc Quaid, and David Mc Entee were the home side scorer's in chief. Inability to hold on to possession was a major factor in this defeat, a fact that will not have gone unnoticed by the mentors involved with this squad. They have little time to eliminate these errors as their next outing is away to Killcloone on Friday 7th April at 7pm at Magheracloone, but is early days and this side should only improve. Best wishes for a speedy recovery to Darragh Freeman, who sustained a nasty injury against Emyvale, hopefully with a little medical attention Darragh will be back in his defensive role shortly.

U.12 Seans 0-6 Latton 1-8
Our Under12 squad proudly stepped on to the big pitch on Saturday evening at 4 O'clock when their game with Latton was switched to Pairc S.M.D. This was a very evenly contested match and despite the slippery underfoot conditions these youngsters served up some wonderful patches of flowing football. Its good to see names long associated with the club, Mc Mahon, Mc Guirk, Murphy, Connolly, Mc Elvaney, Keenan, continue to appear on a Seans team sheet, add to these Mc Elroy, Mc Aleer Treanor, Freeman, Bell, and the future is looking good. We will expand further on these rising stars over the coming months. This squad have a "free" Saturday this week 8th April; their next official outing is away to Clones on 15th April, but don't miss training as I think the manager may have a game lined up for this weekend.

Jersey SOS The search is on for our under 12's Jerseys. Saffron in colour. Size small. Last seen at Elco oils sponsored match at the Festival and Sports weekend. The chief suspects: Mother (fathers are definitely ruled out of this investigation) with access to a washing machine with a son/daughter involved in the Elco Oils coaching programme last year. Probable location; neatly folded in a hot press somewhere in the parish. If any of the foregoing rings a bell then Stephen Hagan will be delighted to here from you.
