Seans Notes 23/12/09
Adult team
Outgoing adult team manager Benny Kieran indicated his intention after last Sunday's final game of the season, that he didn't intend continuing in that position for the coming year. A star player with the club and a long serving member of the executive committee holding the positions of club treasurer and Chairman during his tenure at that table. Benny brought a wealth of knowledge to the managers position and came within a whisker of securing promotion, beaten in a Dr Ward Cup final replay after extra time by three points. While obviously disappointed at not making the step up he will take some satisfaction from the fact that the squad have developed considerably over the year. Two of our minor panel Padraig Mc Guirk and Mark Mc Guigan playing their way on to that Junior Football final lineout and several more in that under 18 age group on the substitutes bench rearing to do likewise next year. He has left our first team in good shape ready for another assault on promotion next year. Club Chairman Danny Clerkin at Tuesday night executive committee meeting again paid tribute to Benny for his outstanding contribution to the club, especially over the past year in his role at team manager, he thanked his selector Patrick Mc Entee and everyone who had helped and assisted in the preparation and welfare of the 09 adult panel. The search now begins to find a new man for this hot seat.
Dancing classes
A reminder of the dates for those two inaugural set and ceile dancing classes over Christmas. Sunday 27th December from 1.00 - 2.00pm is the time for introductory Set Dancing session. The Ceile/Figure dancing session will be held on Saturday morning 2nd January at 11.00am. Children over 7 years of age are invited and welcome to participate in both disciplines. Questions or more information should be directed to Mickey Mc Mahon on 087-2526900. Mickey is confident that there will be sufficient interest to warrant regular weekly classes with the ultimate aim to be in a position select willing participants to represent the club in next year's Scor na nÓg competition.
Club Menbership
A recent directive from Croke Park stipulates that membership subscriptions must be paid and members registered before 31st March. As this registration function is completed on line it important that existing club members or anyone seeking to become a member adhere to this time line, otherwise you cease to be a club member. No doubt club registrar Ciaran Mc Entee will be reminding members of this deadline, but it would make his duty much easier if subscriptions could be paid as soon as possible.

JFL final Dr Ward Cup Currin 0 -15 Seans 1 - 9 AET
Adult Squads
The season ended on a disappointing note on Sunday last when our junior squad went down to Currin in St Tiernach Park Clones after extra time in the Junior Football League final replay on a scoreline of Currin 0 -15 Seans 1- 9. This was a much livelier affair that their drawn game a week earlier, Currin showed their intent with a Stephen Smith point after only thirty seconds of play, our boys kept in touch and the sides were level as they headed to the tunnel 5 point a piece. Derek Mc Mahon opening his teams account with a long range free kick that was allowed bounce over the bar, James Treanor Damien Connolly and two from Padraig Mc Guirk, cancelling out the opposition scorers Stephen Smith (1) Jack Mc Carron (2 F) Ger O Callaghan (1) and half back Declan Smith (1).
On the restart after only fifty seconds Stephen Smith had slipped three defenders to put his side back in front, Ger O Callaghan raise a white flag after a Seans attack had been turned over just inside the 20 metre line at the other end. Damien Larkin under pressure got Sean's off the mark in the 5th minute and James Treanor levelled things two minutes later after Padraig Mc Guirk had made a telling solo run from the middle of the field. Treanor was on the end of another good Sean's build up a minute later but he found Mc Eniff in the Currin goal equal to his effort parrying the ball out for a 45. Ger O Callaghan and Derek Mc Mahon swapped points the latter's minor coming courtesy of a timely and decisive interception from Emmett Mc Elvaney in the Seans full back line. Jack Mc Carron restored Currin's advantage mid way through the half and Philip O Callaghan extended that to two five minutes later. Seans were guilty of a number of missed chance as their tally of wides mounted, but all was forgiven when in the 28th minute Damien Larkin unleashed a perfect angled shot to beat the in form Currin keeper Mc Eniff, the umpire reaching from the green flag to signal our boys into the lead for the first time in the match. With time running out a Dick Clerkin free kick from 40metres out was just inches wide as Seans followers breathed a sigh of relief. In those remaining minute our boys will lament their lack of experience that saw them turn over possession much too easily, and worse the ball being moved forward by the referee for an unnecessary comment, the original position probably within young free taker Jack Mc Carron's range, and with extra time beckoning he made no mistake when closer to goal to tie up the game Currin 0- 11 Seans 1 - 8.
In the extra time periods Currin proved the sharper, and were good value for their two point advantage after the opening ten minutes of play Ger O Callaghan and Ciaran Mc Caffrey getting on the score sheet. The game still finely balanced but pointed frees from Jack Mc Carron (2) and Damien Larkin (1) saw Currin secure promotion to Intermediate ranks and claim the Dr Ward Cup in the process. Final score Currin 0- 15 Seans 1 - 9. (See full match report elsewhere in this issue)
For the record the full panel was Darren Mc Ardle, Paraic Coyle, Stephen Mc Elvaney, Mark Mc Guigan, Noel Rice, Martin Kieran (Capt), Emmett Mc Elvaney, Christopher Hughes, Padraig Mc Guirk (0 - 2), Patrick Kieran,(jnr) Patrick Kiern (sen), Derek Mc Mahon (0-2), Damien Larkin (1- 2), David Mc Entee, James Treanor (0 - 2) (starting 15), Damien Connolly(0 -1), Mark Keogh, Nigel Mc Quillan, Philip Farrell, Nigel Lynch (Subs used).Murt Cleere,Barry Mc Guinness,Paul Mc Phillips, eamonn Mc Quillan, Donal Mc guigan, Brian Mc quaid, Fintan Mc kenna, Daniel Mc Nally, Darren Keely James Murphy,Eunann Mc Entee, Stephen Clerkin Damien Tackney.
Appreciation
Club chairman Danny Clerkin at the after match meal in the complex, thanked the panel of players for their effort and commitment in 2009, while disappointed at not achieving their ultimate goal he said everyone in the club appreciated your effort. He offered encouragement to what was he said a young panel to return with renewed vigour and dedication for next season. He thanked manager Benny Kieran and his selector Pat Mc Entee for all their work with the squad, He thanked those who had fulfilled first aid duty with our three adult squads, and had look after the playing kits. His concluding remarks were greeted with loud applause, words of thanks for the caterers.

Sun 13th Dec JFL Dr Ward Cup Final (Replay) Currin V Seans Clones 1.30pm
Adult Squads
Our boys and Currin must do it all over again next Sunday in St Tiernach Park Clones at 1.30pm, to decide the destiny of the Dr Ward Cup and promotion to intermediate ranks, both side settling for a draw in their opening tussle at the same venue last weekend. Our lads wind assisted in the opening half dominated the possession stakes in the opening period and Currin must have felt relieved going in at the break just two points adrift and the elements still in their favour after the recess. Noel Rice opened Seans account with a point in the 3rd minute well picked out from a David Mc Entee free kick. Seans supporters gasp in anguish in the 6th minute James Treanor found himself in the clear on the edge of the large parallelogram the Currin defence breached by some slick passing only for his angle shot to go inches outside the upright. Shane O' Neill was off target before Derek Mc Mahon doubled the Seans tally three minutes later with a well struck long distance point. Currin were struggling to find a foothold and in the 17th minute their cause wasn't help when a Shane O Neill pass was latched on to by Damien Larkin, Larkin shipped a hefty challenge in the small square but still managed to get his shot away only to see it well parried by alert keeper Waylon Mc Eniff but there was little Mc Eniff could do to prevent James Treanor following up to plant the ball to the Currin net.
Jack Mc Carron slotted over his sides opening score in the 21st minute after Dick Clerkin had been fouled. James Treanor had a similar score at the opposite end a minute later after Patrick Kieran (sen) had been adjudged by the referee to have been stopped illegally. Jack Mc Carron landed his second point converting from the spot where he too had been the victim of an illegal challenge. Manager Benny Kieran reluctantly was forced to withdraw Christopher Hughes after the big midfielder was ticked minutes after he had received a yellow card for an innocuous challenge. In the remaining minutes Dick Clerkin began to make some surging runs liberated as he was from the shackles and attention of the whole hearted Hughes. Thanks to Clerkin's prompting Jack Mc Carron landed frees in the 27th and 29th minutes, in between Mc Carron’s brace Derek Mc Mahon had raised a white flag for Seans. An injury time point from ace free taker Mc Carron had narrow the gap to two point, the scoreboard reading Curin 0 – 5 Seans 1 – 4.
With the second half only two minutes old Dick Clerkin had closed that gap to a single point when he split the post with a free kick all of fifty three metres out. The county star showing that free kick was no fluke when he had the sides level in the 6th minute this time after brother Ben had been fouled on the 45-metre line. A Damien Larkin free kick from the 13 metre line restored Seans lead in the 10th minute. Four minutes later James Treanor momentarily slipped his marker but as the defensive cover closed in his hurried shot went agonisingly wide. Damien Larkin extended his sides lead to two converting another close in free in the 16th minute. Jack Mc Carron and Larkin swapped points from frees in the 18th and 20th minute. Two minute later Jack Mc Carron had again reduced the deficit to a single point converting a 13metre free, and the same player tied the game up with 4 minutes remaining this time from a little further out. It was edge of the seat stuff as both side failed to convert the few chances created in those closing minutes before the referee finally blew the whistle; both sides living to fight another day; final score Currin 0 -10 Seans 1 – 7.
Our boys will know that they will have to be much more clinical in front of goal in next weeks rematch and they will have to produce and improved performance if they are to wrestle the spoils from a Currin side who will also be equally keen to improve on their performance.
Again I would encourage all our supporters to come out in strength to lend their encouragement and support to the squad.
Annual General Meeting
Almost sixty members gather in the complex last Friday night for the clubs Annual General Meeting, They heard club secretary Sean Mc Elvaney deliver a detailed report on every aspect of club activity from the field of play to club development. He articulated the loss the club felt at the death of former Chairman Eddie Murphy, He said “Eddie’s family was the GAA family and it was heartening to see so many of that family come out and pay their respects, not to anyone left behind but to Eddie in his own right. He was a great friend to many and we all have our own personal memories of him that we can hold on to, forever”. He voiced criticism at the decision to impose a €100 fine, and the forfeiture of the match when the club requested postponement of the game as a mark of respect on the day he passed away, interpreted instead that we had failed to field.

Sun 6th Dec JFL Dr Ward Cup Final Currin V Seans Clones 1.30pm
Adult Squads
On Sunday next our junior squad travel to St Tiernach Park Clones to take on Currin in the 2009 Junior Football League final. Although finishing third and fourth in the league table both sides have reached this final on merit, Currin accounting for already promoted championship winners Emyvale while our boys squeezed past a Clones side who were most peoples favourites to join Emyvale in the promotion stakes. Little separates the sides nor will the results of their three previous encounters this year have much bearing on Sunday's outcome, apart from the fact that both managers will know the opposition well and will be trying their very best to nullify their strengths and impose their own game plan. Our boys will have to come to terms much quicker than they did in the championship with young Jack Mc Carron, who had an outstanding game on that occasion, the aerial ability of county star Dick Clerkin is another problem they have to grapple with. But we too have more than a few match winners in our squad who can hold their own in any company, if they can perform to their true ability they can return to the Intermediate ranks at the first time of asking.
We wish everyone involved with the panel the very best of luck on Sunday and expect to see all our supporters out in strength to cheer them on.
Annual General Meeting
A reminder to all club members that our AGM takes place in the complex on Friday night next at 8.30pm. A lot time and energy is invested in the preparation of the various reports, I would encourage members to come along and hear them delivered. We have a membership base of over two hundred it would be great if the vast majority make the effort to attend. Our club is only as good as the members make it. If you are a member then Sean Mc Dermotts is your club come along and voice your opinion, critical or otherwise this is the forum. See you all there.

JFL Dr Ward Cup semi-final Clones 1 – 9 Seans 1 - 11
Adult Squads
On Sunday last in St Tiernach Park Clones our adult squad booked their place in the final of the Dr Ward Cup Junior football League final by virtue of a two point victory over their hosts on a score line of Clones 1 – 9 Seans 1 -11. This was a close and tense affair; our boys started well and had two points on the board through Padraig Mc Guirk and Damien Larkin after five minutes of play. Clones in almost their first real attack had the ball in the Seans net courtesy of Declan Mc Kiernan who expertly slipped his marker before planting the ball well out of reach of goalkeeper Darren Mc Ardle. Clones extended that lead to two converting a thirty five metre free a couple of minutes later. A Sean's attack ended wide of the upright before David Mc Entee landed a good point. The side were level when the Clones defence failed to clear a Padraig Mc Guirk 45 metre free, Damien Larkin on hand to tip over the resultant close in free. In the best move of the match Padraig Mc Guirk James Treanor and Damien Larkin found each other well with long accurate passes to move the ball quickly from their own forty five metre line to the edge of the square, for Larkin to squeeze the ball past the despairing keeper to give his side a three point cushion. In an off the ball incident Clones had a man dismissed, Derek Mc Mahon extended the lead to four converting a 40metre free, Seans too had to rejig their forces as Emmett Mc Elvaney was called ashore still suffering the effect of that red card incident, Damien Connolly slotting into his defensive position. Clones finished the half the stronger and reduced the visitors interval lead to two points, both Adrian Allfort and Colm Connolly converting frees from opposite wings to leave the half time score Clones 1 -3 Seans 1- 5.
With the second half only a minute old free taker All Ford had reduced the deficit to a single point and the same player slotted over another free a couple of minutes later to level the score. Paddy Kieran put our boys back in front with a nice point after good work from James Treanor and Damien Larkin. Clones tied the game up again when their centre half back in a supporting position found himself with time and space to show his forwards how it should be done with a fine point from thirty yards out. Damien Larkin had Seans back in front after the referee move the ball into a more advantageous position and Larkin accepted that gift gratefully. Declan Mc Kiernan despite being surrounded by three defender found the target in the sixteenth minute to level thing again. With scores hard to come by Colm Connolly and Derek Mc Mahon swapped points in the 18th and 21st minute. A Declan Mc Kiernan point in the 24th minute had I suspect most in the crowd thinking this was the winning score. Clones had chances to increase their slender advantage but a combination of poor finishing and last gasp defending kept them at bay. When Derek Mc Mahon struck a 52-meter free in the final minute of the half it looked as if this tie was heading for extra time. In added on time a misdirected pass out of the Clones defence was latched on to by Paddy Kieran he set Nigel Mc Quillan on his way as the Seans forwards queued up to put the ball into the Clones, they hadn't allowed for the Clones custodian who was out like a flash to deny both waiting predators, the ball rebounded to Damien Larken who was content to settle for a point.
In the final minute of added on time a Clones defender was penalised for handling the ball on the ground Larkin made no mistake from the 13-metre line giving our boys a hard earned but merited victory. Final score Clones 1 - 9 Seans 1 – 11.
In a game where there were few stars, more a workmanlike team performance, youthful midfield pair of Padraig Mc Guirk and Christopher Hughes got through a tremendous amount of work. In defence Paraic Coyle, Stephen Mc Elvaney, Martin Kieran Noel Rice, Emmett Mc Elvaney and Fintan Mc Kenna stuck manfully to their task and denied the opposition any real attempts on Darren Mc Ardle's goal apart from that early first half breech by Mc Kiernan. Up front Damien Larkin, and James Treanor always posed a threat and they got good support from the industrious David Mc Entee and some fine fetching from Derek Mc Mahon. Shane O' Neill and veteran Paddy Kieran made good intelligent use of possession forcing their opposite numbers to abandon their usual attacking half back role. Damien Connolly slotted in well when introduced showing no ill effect of his recent absence through injury. Nigel Mc Quillan Mark Keogh and Philip Farrell all did well too when introduced and will be happy with their contribution to this victory. The final against Currin is down for decision on Sunday 6th December, Clones the likely venue. No doubt everyone involved with the squad are delighted to have reached this stage of the competition, but they all know they have their work cut out and will have to up their performance if the are to reverse the result of their championship game against a Currin side who have been knocking on the promotional door now for the last few years.

The youth committee organised a very enjoyable presentation night in the Complex on Saturday night last, county stalwart Paul Finlay was on hand to present winners medals to our U12, and U13 panels as well as runners up medal to our U14 squad. A joint venture with the ladies club who also presented medals to their U12 and U16 squads, the girls also receiving a much coveted club bag. Kelly, Adam O Driscoll and Co demonstrated they are more that just fine young footballers, when their table was declared winners in a very enjoyable table quiz which preceded the presentations. Afterward for the younger brigade it was strutting their stuff on the dance floor to bright light and loud disco music, while parents adjourned to the more soothing and relaxed atmosphere of a traditional music session upstairs. A word of appreciation and thanks to the many families who turned out in strength to support this presentation night and especially to the talented musicians who added so much to the nights entertainment and enjoyment.

RFL Div 3 Final Corduff 0 - 11 Seans 0 - 9
Adult Squads
Our "B" team put in a wholehearted performance in the final of the Mc Keown Cup Division 3 Reserve League Final against Corduff on Saturday afternoon last in Drumhowan. The first half was particularly entertaining with the teams level on no fewer than three occasions, the sides entering the dressing rooms on six points apiece. While our lads will bemoan the loss through accidental injury of a number of key players in the second half Christopher Hughes (leg), Fintan Mc Kenna (eye) and the youthful Mark Mc Guigan (arm) our man of the match especially in the opening half. In truth the Corduff forward division looked that bit sharper in the closing minutes and tagged on the crucial scores to push their team over the finish line at the final whistle. Final score Corduff 0 - 11 Seans 0 - 9 Although obviously disappointed in defeat our reserve panel can hold their heads high with both our "B" and "C" squads making it all the way to their respective league final no mean achievement and no doubt they are already looking forward to next seasons action.
Everyone involved with the club will be hoping our "A" squad can emulate the reserve panels when they take on Clones in St Tiernach Park on Sunday next in the semi-final of the Dr Ward Cup. This game throws in at 2.00pm and if our boys are to progress to the final they will have to reverse the outcome of their two previous league meetings with the Clones men. A task they are capable off, as they demonstrated when the sides last met six week ago, on that occasion leading by two points with minutes remaining, a late late goal robing them of victory. If they find themselves in a similar position this time round hopefully they can shut Mc Kiernan and Co out and book that coveted final place against either Emyvale or Currin.
Scor na nÓg
The semi finals of the Scor na nÓg competition takes place in Ardaghey community centre on Friday night next 18th November, curtain up at 8o'clock. Support for our club participants would be most welcome.

Crawley cup Semi Final Sun 8 Nov Emyvale V Seans (A) 2.00pm
Adult Squads
Last week ends inclement weather has played havoc with proposed fixture arrangements. Our A team’s Dr Ward Cup semi final clash scheduled for next Sunday against Clones in St Tiernach Park has been deferred; a new date has not yet been announced. The Crawley cup semi-final planned for Emyvale under lights on Wednesday night has also been deferred but will now take place on Sunday afternoon next at the same venue at 2.00pm.
One game that did go ahead on Saturday last was our “B” squads Reserve Football League Division 3 semi final decider with Scotstown. Played in Scotstown in slippery underfoot conditions our boys managed to book a final spot at the expense of their hosts on a scoreline of Scotstown 0 -5 Seans 1 -6. David Mc Entee after seven minutes had the opening score of the game a point from play, and a couple of minutes later the same player was involved in what turned out to be the decisive score of the match, Mc Entee through on goal his goal bound effort brilliantly saved by the Scotstown net minder but the ball fell kindly for Nigel Mc Quillan to side foot across the unguarded line. Scotstown opened their account with a converted 13metre free mid way through the half, a Mc Quillan 20 metre free cancelled that out a couple of minutes later. A misdirected free kick in the heart of the Seans defence was quickly punished by the home side, a well taken point from play. From the kick out Scotstown landed another good point from play, Danny Mc Nally restore a three point half time cushion for our boys when in converted a 13metre free in injury time; Soctstown 0 -3 Seans 1 – 3.
Scotstown were first to raise a white flag in the second half, but scores were had to come by in this period, Padraig Mc Guirk converted a 45 metre free for Seans in the 16th minute, five minute later Nigel Mc Quillan add another from play, Scotstown were forcing the pace as they went in search of a match winning goal but a combination of the greasy condition and last ditch defending restricted their tally to a converted 20metre pointed free. With time almost up Padraig Mc Guirk produced the score of the game from thirty five metre out along the stand side, an insurance point. Final score Scotstown 0 – 5 Seans 1 – 6.

Our first team had to come from behind on Sunday last in the final game of their ‘09 junior football league campaign against Oram. Wind assisted in the first half Oram were 1 – 2 to 0 – 2 after only seven minutes of play, our somewhat depleted panel on this occasion saw Patrick Kieran (Sen) take on goalkeeper duty, but a goal from Derek Mc Mahon help propel our boys into a slender one point interval lead Seans 1 -6 Oram 2 -2. With the elements in their favour and young Danny Mc Nally (1 - 4) in sparkling form banging in a cracking goal in the 56th minute and a equally superb point a couple of minutes earlier, second half points from Derek Mc Mahon, Nigel Mc Quillan, Damien Larkin, and Shane O Neill was enough to put the game out of reach of the visitors; final score Oram 2 – 5 Seans 2 -13. The results of these final series of games didn’t alter the league positions at the top of the table our lads still play Clones, the date set for this winner take all show down is Sunday 8th November in St Tiernach Park with the throw in time of 2.00pm. The winners of course progresses to the Dr Ward Cup final against either Emyvale or Currin and a shot at promotion.
Our “B” squad have a couple of very important fixture ahead of them, they contest the semi final of the RFL Div 3 competition against Scotstown, and in the reserve championship (Crawley Cup) they play Emyvale also in the semi final. On Saturday next they travel to Scotstown for that league semi final decider; throw in is 3 o' clock for that one. While it’s to Emyvale under lights at 8.00pm on Wednesday 4th November for the Crawley Cup clash. As mention in this column last week it’s important that all members of our adult panels attend their weekly training /coaching sessions. Equally important is that they make themselves available for selection by turning out for these very important games, the results of which will very much shape the outcome of our ’09 playing season. They will still have to negotiate very stiff final hurdles but all we can ask for now is that everyone puts there shoulder to the wheel to make sure they are in that position.

RFL Div 4 Final Oram 2 - 11 Seans 1 -1
Adult
Our "C" team were comprehensively beaten by a much stronger Oram outfit in the final of the Division 4 reserve league competition in Drumhowan on Saturday evening last on a scoreline of Oram 2 - 11 Seans 1 -1. Our boys although raising only a solitary point in the opening half via Brian Mc Quaid, restricted the opposition to just six and the game was still very much in the melting pot at least on the score board at the break. Oram had shown glimpses of their capabilities in the opening half but were thwarted by a couple of fine save from Jeremy Treanor in the Seans goal and some last ditch defending. But within minutes of the restart that superior ball handling skill and teamwork had unlocked the previously impenetrable Sean's defence to raise two green flags and virtually end the game as a contest. Our lads to their credit continued to battle and were rewarded when veteran full forward Gary Larkin flung himself full length to steer the ball to the Oram net. A serious leg injury to Oram's full back Tony Graham midway through the second half necessitated a lengthy interruption, play resumed but in truth neither side were in the mood for continuing, but continue they did with Oram proving their superiority and running out comfortable winners in the end. Our lads are to be complimented on turning out in such great numbers through out this league campaign and making it all the way to the final for a second year in succession. While obviously disappointed at not retaining the Paddy Kieran Cup this panel generated great team spirit and huge enjoyment for everyone involved, reasons enough just to get out there and play.
For the record the members of the '09 "C" panel were:-
Jeremy Treanor, Paul Mc Phillips, Sean Mc Kenna, Stephen Clerkin, Darren Keely, Conor Connolly, Donal Mc Guigan, John Paul Mc Entee, Eunan Mc Entee, Darragh Freeman, Ciaran Murphy, Paul Durnian, Colin Murphy, Gary Larkin, Brian Mc Quaid, Fergal Mc Quillan, Adrian Mc Carron, David Treanor, James Murphy, Rurarí Mc Carron, Gerard Mc Ardle, Cristian Keenan, Fintan Connolly, Murt Cleere, Ashley Maguire, Fergal Mullan, The management team was Enda Murphy , Paul Kelly, Alan Treanor, Eamonn Mc Quillan, while Aisling Keenan very competently looked after all their first aid need.
We congratulate Oram, and send our best wishes for a speedy and full recovery to Tony Graham and hope his stay in hospital will be a short one.
Next Saturday at 2.00pm the "B" squad Have home advantage for the visit of neighbours Aghabog in the reserve championship (Crawley Cup) quarter final, with this squad also vying for place in the RFL Division 3 final it important all members of the panel make themselves available this Saturday afternoon at 3:30.
On Sunday our junior squad complete their league series of games when Oram visit TMH for a 2.30pm throw in, with final league table positions at stake it's again important that the manager has a full panel to select from.
Under age Scene
A personal tally of 4 - 3 from full forward Aidan Ward helped our Under 13 squad overcome a very useful Cremartin side in the final of the Division 2 Shield competition played at a misty Rooskey on Saturday morning last on a scoreline of Seans 5 - 7 Cremartin 4 - 6. Wards contribution no doubt earned him man of the match, but this was far from a one man show, Niall Kearns in midfield put in a tremendous second half performance, his industry along with partner Paul Bannon and that of Shane Farrell Aaron Mc Nally Jamie Keenan Enda Connolly and Dara Bell in defence helped considerably in overturning the four point half time advantage Cremartin held; Cremartin 3 - 3 Seans 1 - 5.
Up front along with Ward, Adam O' Driscoll, Rian Mc Entee, and Dylan Keenan were in fine form, all three also getting their names on the score sheet, Patrick Mc Cabe used his skill well to gain possession against much bigger and stronger opponents and set up teammates with great vision and some breathtaking precision passing.
In a closely contested and highly entertaining game Cremartin were quickly into their stride and had a goal on the scoreboard from their first attack having gained possession from the throw in, Rian Mc Entee opened Seans account with point in the 4th minute, Aidan Ward had a sweet point off his right a minute later before being on hand to crash the ball to the Cremartin net for a much need goal to tie the game up at 1 -2 apiece in the 7th minute. Adam O Driscoll in the 13th minute put his side in front for the first time in the match, Cathal Kerr for Cremartin was getting through a tremendous amount of work and it was thanks to his prompting round the middle of the field that his side were back in front four minutes later the ball ending up in the Sean net. Aidan Ward level things again with two quick point from play. With the half time whistle approaching Kerr landed a nice point, a 13 metre free from an acute angle, and on the stroke of half time Mark Brennan found the Seans net for a third Cremartin goal to give the Shamrock youngsters a 4 point interval lead.
From the throw in Seans were back in the match Adam O Driscoll on hand to raise a green flag after quick interchanges between Dylan Keenan Paul Bannon and goal scorer O Driscoll, Cremartin stylish midfieder Cathal Kerr was forced to leave the field injuring himself as he tried valiantly to prevent O Drioscoll's shot on the target. His absence was sorely missed, despite the loss of their infuential midfielder the lads in green battled bravely and landed two well taken points from play to keep their noses in front. But in a five minute purple patch all that changed as Aidan Ward found the net in the 17th 20th and 22nd minute to turn the game in our boy's favour. Cremartin were not about to throw in the towel and with Cathal Kerr returning to his customary position, team captain James Mc Carron in the Seans goal had to be alert to prevent a Cremartin revival and but for the excellant defensive qualities displayed by Niall Kearns who time and again tracked back to help out his beleaguered defence in those closing minute that revival would almost certainly have come about. Dylan Mc Nally completed the scoring for Seans in the 23rd minute, Cremartin added a point from play in the 25th minute and in added on time their pressure was rewarded with a goal from full forward Vidas Rikas, his second of the game but time had run out, leaving our boys releived winners; final score Seans 5 -7 Cremartin 4 - 6.
All four substitutes used Mathew Mc Guirk, Dylan Mc Nally, Niall Murphy and Martin Mc Guirk equipped them selves very well when introduced and help consolidated our boys second half come back, the other members of the panel were Ryan Connolly, Ryan Hughes, Damon Hagan, Shane Kelly, Jason Kierans, Patrick Mc Phillips, Darren Morgan, Mark Murphy Kyle Treanor. A word of appreciation to their mentors David Treanor, Gerard Mc Nally, Cristian Keenan, Jerome Mannering and Aisling Keenan their ever reliable first aider for their commitment to this squad; also to all the parents and family members who turned out not only on Saturday but since this campaign started your support and encouragement is very much appreciated.

RFL D4 Semi-final V Castleblaney
Our C team booked their place in the final of the RFL D4 competition after a smash and grab raid against Castleblaney Faughs last Saturday afternoon. Our lads travelled to ‘Blaney more in hope than expectation after a long break with no competitive football and boy did it show. The home side slammed home an early goal chance courtesy of a defensive blunder but all credit our lads as they hung in there and got back on terms with a Brian McQuaid goal after some excellent ball handling by Stephen Clerkin. It was nip and tuck all the way with the Faughs going into half time 2 points to the good after what could only have been described as a lacklustre display by the Seans men. The second half saw some improvement although our goal did lead a charmed existence as the home side missed goal chances one after the other but showing great spirit and determination our lads reduced the gap to 2 points and with the minutes slipping, it looked like that was the way it would finish. Then that man Gary Larkin, slipped his marker, took a pass from Colin Murphy and not for the first time in his career, scored the decisive goal to put us in front. As Castleblaney tried to close the gap, our lads battled with great determination to hold onto their slender lead and in fact managed to grab another couple of points in injury time to put the match beyond the home side on a 2-08 to 1-08 scoreline. We look forward to the final V Oram in Ballybay this Saturday (17th) at 4pm.
JFL V Toome
The first 15 took the field against Toome on Sunday at 3pm and produced a good all round display to take the 2 points quite comfortably in the end on a 2-12 to 2-04 scoreline which keeps ourselves in with an outside chance of overtaking Currin for 3rd spot in the table. Overall the defence did well restricting the visitors to a total of 2 points from play and whilst our ball handling was a little ropey at times, 2-12 was a reasonable tally with Damien Larkin weighing in with 6 points and Nigel McQuillan & Derek McMahon getting a goal each. Our next and final match of the league rounds is against Oram on 25th October and whilst the 4 semi-finalists are decided, pairings have still to be determined.
Under age Scene
Our under 13 team made it through to the Div 2 shield final after overcoming Corduff in a hard fought encounter in Pairc Sean MacDirmada on Saturday last. The Seans started well and went in at half time with a comfortable lead but the Corduff team came back strongly at the start of the second half and really had our lads on the run but we finished stronger and now face Cremartin in the final which has been provisionally fixed for next Saturday at time of going to press. See official fixture list for details. We would like to thank all the supporters and especially the parents who came out to support the team and we hope to see a big turnout for the final.

After what has seemed like an endless break, our adult teams get back to action in no small measure this weekend, firstly with the ‘C’ team lining out on Saturday in Castleblaney against the home side in the semi-final of the RFL Div 4 competition at 4:30pm. No competitive action for any of our adult teams this week, the "C" squad's semi final against Castleblayney is scheduled for next week end Saturday 10th October in St Mary's Park at 4.30pm. In preparation for this encounter all members of the panel are reminded that weekly training sessions are held on Tuesday and Friday nights at 8.00pm, the management team would be delighted to see a full attendance. Our A and B sides too have a few very important fixtures in the pipeline, with a possibility that the deferred Toome JFL game may be slotted in on Sunday 11th. No word yet as to the date of the reserve League Division 3 semi final. In the absence of official competitive action our first team squad had a very useful run out against Scotstown's B team on Saturday evening last despite finishing on the wrong side of the result, nonetheless it was a very worthwhile exercise.

Action in the Junior Football League resumes for our adult squad on Saturday next at 5.00pm. They entertain Toome at TMH, the St Victor's lads are vying for a place in the championship final and have had two fiercely competitive games with Killanny in their effort to secure that coveted spot. Regardless of the outcome these game will no doubt stand them in good stead, despite this our boys will be hoping that home advantage and a high level of performance from the whole team will swing this result in their favour. To secure a semi final place on their own merit they need to gain at least two more league points from their two remaining games against Saturday's visitors or in their last league outing also at home to Oram. Everyone involved with the squad will be hope they do this sooner rather than later as they will then be free to concentrate on the real buisness preparing for the knock out stage of the competition and promotion!
Under age Scene
Our under 13 side had the slenderest of victories over host Eire Óg on Saturday last, this was a closely fought game throughout, the accuracy of Aidan Ward keeping out boys in touch, and then a last minute goal from Adam O Driscoll to steal the two points. Next Saturday they complete their league series of games when the entertain Truagh at TMH, this game throws in at the normal Saturday morning starting time of 11.00pm. Results from last week-end games are hard to come by; everyone involved with this squad will be keeping an anxious eye of the league table just to see exactly where they are positioned.

No action for adult squads this week the "A" team's next outing is at home to Toome on Saturday 26th September at 5 o’ clock. Our two reserves panels have completed their full series of league matches but await the outcome of a few outstanding games in both the Reserve League Division 3 and 4 competitions, these will determine the final placing at the top of their respective league tables, semi final pairings and venues will be known as soon as these games have been played.
Under age Scene
Our under 13 squad and Clontibret served up an excellent game of football in Phairc Sheáin Mhic Dhiarmada on Saturday last. Played in Mediterranean conditions it was a reminder of what the summer should have been like. The game itself was a tight affair from start to finish with never more than a couple of scores between these two evenly matched teams. Some excellent passages of play ensued, Dylan Keenan for Seans proved a good target man in the first half. With quick hands his unselfish distribution of a plentiful supply of the ball always ensured the man in the better position was given the ball. Dylan himself got his sides opening score; on the end of a long high delivery into the Clontibret goalmouth he got the final touch fisting the ball to the visitors net. Several attempts in that first half landed short into the goalkeeper’s hands, these were duly punished at the opposite end, as the Clontibret net minder lost no time in setting up quick counter attacks with considerable success the visitors going in at the break four points to the good.
Our men regrouped in the second half and got off to a good start when Aidan Ward connected and rifled the ball to the Clontibret net. At this stage our lads were in the ascendancy and should have pressed home that advantage, they didn’t, but credit the Clontibret youngsters they weathered the storm and pushed themselves back in front going three points up. Then came the score of the match, the ball broke forward and wing half back Niall Murphy found himself thirty metres from the Clontibret goal, he made further ground wisely using the bounce to give himself space as he bore down on the visitors goal before unleashing and unstoppable shot that fairly rattled the roof of the Clontibret net. This was the last score of the match and gave our lads a very valuable point for the league table. The final score Sean Mac Diarmada 3-5, Clontibret 2-8. From this display it is obvious that a lot of good work is being but in at their weekly training session especially regards tackling as the backline of James Mc Carron, Jamie Keenan, Shane Farell, Dara Bell, Enda Connolly, Paul Bannon, Aaron Mc Nally acquitted themselves well against a very potent Clontibret attack. Training continues on Tuesday and Thursdaay nights at 7.00 p.m.

A goal with only a minute of normal time remaining in St Tiernachs Park on Sunday last saw our adult squad surrender a two point advantage as Clones tagged on another point from play in injury time to insure the two league points were salvaged by the home side; final score Clones 3 -9 Seans 2 -10. In difficult conditions this game had everything ;our boys five points to the good before Clones opened their account with a goal in the twelfth minute, that after goalkeeper Darren Mc Ardle a couple of minutes earlier had saved superbly from the penalty spot. Declan Mc Kiernan using his considerable physique to cause all sorts of problems for our defence indeed the big Clones full forward had a hand in all three goals as well as landing four first half points. Damien Larkin goaled for Seans in this opening period and points from Shane O Neill (2) Patrick Kieran and Larkin left the half time score 1 - 6 apiece.
Derek Mc Mahon had Seans in front in the second half after three minutes of play, but that lead was short lived, two minutes in fact Darren Freeman along the end line burst his way past his marker to set Mc Kiernan up for a simple tap in on the goal line. Clones extended their lead to three with a free in the eighth minute and Mc Kiernan punished the misdirected resultant kick out with unerring accuracy raising another white flag. Damien Larkin converted a free in the 12th minute and in the 15th it was all square again as a long delivery from Derek Mc Mahon bounced on the greasy surface deceiving the home defence Larkin fastest to react turning quickly he kept control of the ball on the ground and fired past a helpless Clones keeper. Larkin was again on hand to put his side in front after David Mc Entee and Eamonn Mc Quillan had done well to win possession, Patrick Kieran put the visitors two up with twenty minutes gone. Both side had chances to seal this game but it wasn't until the last minute that the decisive move was made, a high ball into the heart of the Seans defence was poorly contested and the in rushing Clones forward accepted the gift rattling the Seans net and putting the home side back in the driving seat with time almost up; more importantly insuring the spoils went Clones's way; final score Clones 3 - 9 Seans 2 -10.
Next outing is at home to Toome on Sunday 27th September.
Under age Scene
Our under 13 side came up against a physical stronger Dohamlet side on Saturday last and although our lads tried all they knew they were on this occasion no match for the very useful home side. With the result in no doubt long before the finish the mentors took the opportunity to use the entire substitute panel at their disposal.
With an injury sustained to regular goalkeeper James Mc Carron Ryan Connolly move from his corner forward position and proved a very able replacement between the sticks. Next Saturday they will be hoping for a better outcome when they entertain Clontibret at TMH at the usual time of 11.00am.

Our adult squad makes the journey to St Tiernachs Park Clones on Sunday morning next, starting time for this junior football league encounter is now 12.00 noon. Our boys won’t have happy memories of their last visit to this venue; knocked out of the championship as they were by Currin on that occasion. This time round though they will be hoping to perform much better against a very fit looking and hotly fancied home side. Clones are in scintillating form at the moment as their recent run of result have shown, so much so that they are now many pundits’ favourites for promotion. Our boys on the other hand are struggling to find the form that will also lead them to that same destination. They require another couple of points to make sure they are in contention come the end of the league series of games in a couple of weeks time, and pillaging two from Sunday’s game may be a tall order given the current form of both teams; it’s certainly not beyond our squads capabilities, but they must work much harder to eradicate elementary ball handling and distribution errors if they are to turn over this opposition on their home patch.
The reserve squads got off to a winning start in the first of the four games scheduled this week, on Sunday last the “C” squad with home advantage accounted for visitors Oram on a scoreline of Seans 2 – 11 Oram 1 – 10. On Monday night the “B” squad claimed the two points at stake in their game with Truagh, fixture congestion the cause I suspect of the St Mellans based side’s concession. The “C” squad are in action on Wednesday and Friday night and while the Wednesday night fixture against Currin is scheduled for Scotshouse, at time of going to press there is talk that both these forthcoming game will be played at TMH. All panellists should check with manager Enda Murphy for venue confirmation, no doubt about the starting time that’s 7 o’ clock on both evenings.
Under age Scene
Our Under 16 squad were comprehensively beaten by Carrickmacross in their division 2 semi-final clash on Friday night last. Although we have some exceptional talented footballers in this squad, and a panel that have developed a unified work ethic that saw them turn their season around to make the knock out stages of this competition. On Friday night in a game where little went right and despite the one sided nature of this game our boy’s team spirit and panel unity was obvious, to a man they kept playing right to the final whistle. On this performance though Carrick were in a different league and I suspect given the quality of this display would give many of the teams operating in a higher division a run for their money.
For the record the ’09 panel were Conor Freeman, James Mc Aleer, Stephen Mc Carron, Conor Kearns, Daniel Mc Carron, Colin Mc Elvaney, Jamie Mc Elvaney, Conor Mc Elroy, Shane Hagan, Shane Larkin, Kevin Mc Mahon, James Connolly, Pierce Murphy, Enda Mc Quillan, Conor Mc Cormick, Dwayne Mc Caffrey, Adrian Prunty Sean Freeman, Luke Killoran.
Our under 13’s played Cremartin in a very close affair in Phairc SMD on Saturday morning last. In a low scoring game there never was more than a point or two between the teams at any time. Cremartin playing with the benefit of a fresh breeze in the first half, the men in Saffron taking it upon themselves to defend stoutly in this opening period. This proved the case as the half time scoreboard read Cremartin 0-3, Seans0-2.
The second half started well two quick points put our boys into the lead for the first time in this encounter. For the next quarter of the match the game opened up, some excellent passages of play ensued, but despite this honest endeavour out field from both sides there was no change on the score board. Then came what home supporters thought was the decisive score. Niall Kearns short free kick to Dylan Mc Nally was quickly returned to the free taker gaining ten yards in the process, he lofted a high ball into the square where Aidan Ward’s deft flick steered the ball into the Cremartin net. Our cushion of a couple of points though was short lived, Cremartin going straight up the field and stringing together a succession of passes to unhinge the home defence and then despatching the ball to the Seans net. The last few minutes proved to very tense, luckily for us the referee called time and we came out of this game on the right of a 1 -5 to 1 -4 result.
Team on duty: James Mc Carron, Jamie Keenan, Shane Farrell, Aaron Mc Nally, Enda Connolly, Niall Murphy, Niall Kearns, Dylan Mc Nally, Paul Bannon, Adam O Driscoll, Patrick Mc Cabe, Aidan Ward, Sean Grant,Mark Murphy, Dara Bell, Mattthew Mc Guirk, Ryan Mc Entee, Martin Mc Guirk, Ryan Connolly, Shane Kelly, Darren Morgan, Ashley Maguire, Dylan Keenan, Jason Kierans, Damon Hagen Patrick McPhilips.
Training continues on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 7pm, on the evidence of the first three games there has been a lot of good coaching/training taking place, but in order to compete with the teams at the top end of this division it is vital to maintain a good level of fitness, as that’s what usually wins out in the latter stages of games and will be a very important asset if these lads qualify for the knock out stages of this competitions. With school re opening this week it’s important then that all panel members make the effort to attend these twice weekly sessions. Next Saturday this panel travel to Doohamlet for another 11.o clock morning throw in.

Last Sunday in Killanny our junior squad suffered a seven point defeat at the hands of the Geraldines. Our boys opened sluggishly and were not rewarded with a score until midway through the half, substitute Danny Mc Nally firing to the Killanny net to spark a mini revival as the home side had raced into a 1 -6 to 0-0 lead before Mc Nally’s three pointer, that deficit was cut to a single point at the interval as our boys tagged on five unanswered points. Unfortunately those out of sorts opening minutes were to be replicated again in the second half, the home side needing no second bidding took full advantage and ran out deserving winner in the end 2 – 11 to 1 – 7.
With only a couple of games remaining in this competition it’s a case of all hands to the pump as the squad try to discover the form we all know they are capable off. Their next outing is against table topper and another high flying championship outfit Clones in Clones on Sunday 6th Sept, a couple of very valuable league points at stake and still required to make sure they qualify for the semi-final shake up.
The reserve squads have a busy week ahead with the “C” panel in action on Sunday, Wednesday and Friday, sandwiched in between are the “B’s” on Monday night they make the journey to St Mellans for their joust with Truagh. All game have a 7.00pm throw in.

Our Under 16 squad travel to Carrickmacross on Friday evening for their Division 2 simi-final tilt with the hot favourite home side, the Carrick lads had a fairly comfortable victory when these sides met in an earlier round of this competition. Our boys will be hoping to compete much better than on that occasion and in recent week have worked very hard in their effort to be in contention at this stage and maybe even extend their season just a little bit longer. All support is invited to Carrickmacross for 7 o’ clock on Friday next 26th August.
The Under 13 squad after their opening game defeat at the hand of Latton looked to be in trouble again in their second round outing against Corduff on Saturday last. Aided by a stiff breeze the Gael’s youngsters were two goal to the good before our lads had even a chance to settle, but thanks to an in form Aidan Ward who proved a handful throughout, they rallied and were just those two early goals adrift at the interval Corduff 3 -2 Seans 1 -2. Our boys were a much more potent outfit in the second half when they played early and direct ball and with the elements at their back they eventually ran out comfortable winners Corduff 3 – 3 Seans 6 -6. This was a good all round team performance all sub used slotting in nicely when introduced with goalkeeper James Mc Carron, Shane Farrell Patrick Mc Cabe Jamie Keenan Dara Bell Shane Kelly and Mark Murphy and the afore mentioned Aidan Ward all catching the eye repeatedly. Good vibes coming from their coaching sessions, and everyone on the panel are asked to keep this effort going. Their twice weekly sessions continue as usual on Tuesday and Thursday nights.
Next Saturday at 11.00am they have their first home game of the competition when the entertain Cremartin at TMH.

In the Minor League Division 2 semi-final on Tuesday evening last at Clontibret our minor squad put in their best performance of the season to push the home side to the very limit; despite the severe handicap of a having a man dismissed in the opening half they battled courageously to turn a 1 -7 to 1 -5 half time deficit into a two point advantage with the second half twenty minutes old. Points from Danny Mc Nally (2) Brian Mc Quaid (1) and a glorious effort from Padraig Mc Guirk nosing our lads in front. Clontibret failing to increase their half time tally despite numerous chances to do so in those twenty minutes, but a pointed free in the 22nd minute and another from play a minute later tied the game up. It was edge of the seat stuff as both sides went for the winner in those final seven minutes; time ran out though the game ending in a draw 1 – 9 a piece and extra time on the cards. Our boys had opened in whirlwind fashion Brian Mc Quaid planting the ball to the Clontibret net after only three minutes of play, Clontibret relying on placed balls to keep in touch in that explosive opening half which say Brian Mc Quaid (1 –2) Mark Mc Guigan (0 -2) and Danny Mc Nally (0 -1 F).
The big talking point among our supporters was not the sending off but how the referee failed to spot the obvious foul on Danny Mc Nally in the Seans goalmouth in the sequence of play just prior to Clontibret first half goal. There were howls of disbelief from our big contingent of supporters while the home crowd greeted this lifeline with bemused delight. In truth had this score not been awarded the final outcome might have been different. It gave the hotly favoured Clontibret lads a real shot in the arm instead of going in at the break in arrears they headed to the dressing rooms two points to the good. For extra time our boys were restored to regulation numbers but it was Clontibret who held the advantage at the end of the first period Clontibret 1 -12 Seans 1 -11. Brian Mc Quaid had opened the scoring in the second minute Clontibret hit back instantly with two well taken points from play in the 4th and 5th minute. Padraig Mc Guirk in the 9th minute score a fisted point using his strength well to keep possession and solo through the Clontibret defence to level things again. In the final minute of this opening extra time period Seans keeper Jonathan Kavanagh got down smartly to deny a certain goal and deflect a point blank shot over the bar to give Clontibret the slenderest of leads.
On the restart Danny Mc Nally had the sides level after two minutes of play and a super long range strike from Rory Lyden had Seans in front. From the kick out Clontibret should have wrap the game up but the shot was off target with the visitor’s goal wide open. A free in the 8th minute levelled things again for the home team and it appeared we were heading for a replay but on the stroke of full time a massive effort from 40metres out close to the sideline broke the hearts of our gallant lads and send Clontibret into the final in the most dramatic fashion. Although ending up on the wrong side of the result this was a great team performance, few will quibble if I single out Ashley Maguire who put in a man of the match performance from his corner back position, not far behind were the Mc Guigan boys Mark on the “40” and Donal at full back as well as those already mentioned.
The full panel was Jonathan Kavanagh, Stephen Mc Carron, Donal Mc Guigan Ashley Maguire, Adrian Prunty, Jamie Mc Elvaney, Gavin Baxter, Danny Mc Nally, Padraig Mc Guirk, Shane Larkin, Mark Mc Guigan, Conor Mc Elroy, Conor Hagan, Brian Mc Quaid, Rory Lyden, Jonathan Bannon, Emmett Connolly, Kevin Mc Mahon, Shane Hagan, Mark Bell.
Junior squad
Our adult team got back to winning ways on Monday night when they ran out comprehensive winners against Killeevan in their deferred JFL game play at TMH; Seans 1 – 17 Killeevan 1 -8. It was only in the closing stages of the second half that our lad’s superior fitness told as a somewhat depleted visiting outfit began to feel the pace and effect of their first half exploits. In those opening 30 minutes Killeevan more than matched our boys. Darren Greenan directing things from the middle of the field, up front Vinnie Martin, Noel Smith and Dermot Lynch causing all kind of bother for the home defence. It was no surprise under this sustained pressure cracks began to appear and when the referee adjudged the bustling Martin to have been pulled down in the square, Lynch dispatched the resultant penalty with some aplomb well out of reach of goalkeeper Darren Mc Ardle, leaving the half time score Seans 0 – 6 Killeevan 1- 6.
Patrick Kieran and James Treanor had early second half point to cut the deficit to a single point Noel Smith converted a Killeevan free and in the 8th minute Vincent Martin under pressure but on the end of a lovely floated crossed into the Seans goalmouth watched in disbelief as his palmed effort sailed inches over the bar when a goal seemed a more likely result. This proved to be Killeevan’s last score. It was in an eight minute purple patch mid way through this half that our boys put the result beyond doubt hitting 1 – 6, all but two coming from play, the goal from the boot of Damien Larkin from close range.
Good to see Emlyn Clerkin back in harness he will be a welcome addition to the squad, next Sunday they entertain championship semi finalist Killanny at TMH, 12.30pm the scheduled starting time for this one.
Under age Scene
Our Under 16 squad continued their impressive performances of late with another 5 star display on Friday night last in Aghabog in their play off with Cú Chulainns for a Division 2 semi final place. Running out comfortable winners in the end but not before a few heart stopping moments early in the second half went the never say die Cu Chulainns youngsters bags a couple of quick goals forcing our lads to redouble their effort to keep their noses in front. Given their early results in this competition this committed bunch of youngsters have done extremely well to turn their season around and book a semi final place.
Their ability to take direction well and work hard for one another a key factors in their revival, a fact that impressed the Cu Chulainn’s mentor and commented on by him in his after match visit to their dressing room. They have the opportunity to fine tune these attributes at coaching sessions over the coming week, and razor sharp they will have to be if the are to overcome hot favourite Carrickmacross in that semi final clash which is down for decision on Friday 26th August.
The Under 13 squad suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Latton in the opening game of the Division 2 competition on Saturday last, they will be hoping for better fortune when they make another away journey this week, this time to Corduff. Bus time table and collection points for this 11.00am game is as arranged with the team mentors. All panellist are reminded that it is most important that they make the effort to attend the weekly coaching sessions.

Adult Squads
Last Sunday evening our junior squad were piped by a single point by Emyvale in their Dr Ward Cup clash on a scoreline of Emyvale 0 – 12 Seans 1 – 8; but had our boys displayed a little more composure in front of goal the outcome of this game might have been so much different. Next Monday night at TMH they take on neighbours Killeevan in a previous deferred game in the same competition, they will be hoping they can get back to winning ways in this one and also have Sunday night absentee Patrick Kieran and James Treanor back available for selection. Not an easy task as the visitors will also keen to add to their points tally and secure a coveted top four finishing position. On Wed night the “C” squad entertain Rockcorry at TMH both games will get under way at 7.00pm.
The minor squad have a very tough assignment to negotiate on Tuesday evening if they are to book a place in the final of the Division 2 league competition. They must overcome pace setters Clontibret on their home patch if that dream of a final place is to become a reality. While the odds may be stacked against them they certainly have the ability to cause an upset but the whole panel will have to play to their full potential to make the dream come true. Hopefully our supporters will travel in strength to give them the support and encouragement they deserve. Throw in 7.00pm

They also have an away game the following week Corduff providing the opposition on Saturday 22nd August. Games in this competition are schedule to commence at 11.00am. A celebratory Party takes place in the complex on Friday night next 14th August to acknowledge the fantastic achievement of a local lad at the World Amateur Boxing Championships last weekend. Congratulations and well done to Shane Murphy Nahill who capture a world Amateur title for himself on his recent visit to the Kansas City, Kansas, USA with Smithboro ABC. Shane made the trip to World Championships along with brother Declan and two other Smithboro representatives' Stephen and Gary Mc Kenna. All four young fighters have adhered to an intensive training programme and fitness regime over the last number of months in preparation for this prestigious four day event, which attract some 1,500 fighters from around the globe. Coach Fergal Mc Kenna was confident the lads would equip themselves well but I doubt even he could have envisaged this level of success. To acknowledge their history making journey the first ever Monaghan representative to compete at these World Amateur Boxing championships, and to celebrate Shane fantastic achievement we are delighted to host this get together where our local community and boxing enthusiasts will have the opportunity to congratulate this shy and modest young man personally on his marvellous achievement. See you all there.

Festival & Sports weekend
Despite poor weather conditions big numbers turned out to support our annual festival and sports weekend; on Friday night record numbers participating in the table quiz in the club's social centre. MC and question master Sean McElvaney was the cause of much head scratching with questions as varied as how many 9's do you have from 1-100; or how many premier league medals have MU amassed (the ABU supporters in the audience were not impressed). A lively sudden death tie breaker ensued at the finish, eventually won by the O'Malley/Mc Philips/Mc Elvaney table just piping Adrian Larkin's foursome when correctly answering one of those hateful spelling teasers or was it Europe longest river?
The novelty of live pig racing on Saturday evening brought young and old out in strength, boy could those wee squealers run. With betting brisk the book makers did a roaring trade and rumour has it one local lady and well placed GAA official made a tidy packet. Collecting prizemoney and then the bonus of a well place bet, after been pushed to open her purse strings to purchase the most expensive runner in the last race of the evening; the Auction Stakes. Emlyn and Adrian enhanced their culinary skills at the BBQ stall, keeping the multitude well fed.
It was fun for all on Sports Day Sunday, athletic events in all distances from tiny tots to the fathers race: here Alan Treanor has recovered from a disastrous fall having used his ingenuity to propel himself into the lead when he lost his footing or was he tripped! Gary Larkin too is recovering well with no lasting effects we hope from the psychological blow of not winning this event; installed as odds on favourite with a lot of money at stake, all of it his own, caught on the line by flyer Tony Mc Guinness.
Sean Mc Elvaney was declared the winner of the donkey derby in contentious and dubious circumstances having entered the competition very very late and then choosing to accept a trophy rather than a monetary prize as his reward just to really rub it in to the beaten finalists youth committee chairman Enda Murphy and yours truly.
The Under 8's and 10's demonstrated their skills in the Elco oils sponsored exhibition football games, Elco MD Hughie McElvaney was on hand as he has been for all of thirty years now to present all participants with tee shirts.
In the novelty adult football match that followed both Larkin and Treanor had recovered from their earlier ordeal on the track to participate. The composure of Stephen Connolly and the silky skills of Jerome Mannering and Noel Melvin were obvious for all to see, the latter preferring to keep the ball on the ground rather than taking it to hand, legacy of another code. This little preference was about the only thing a bias, whistle, card happy referee did interpret correctly and he couldn't be faulted for issuing a verbal warning. As for an Runai his shooting hasn't improved anything since his last outing a year ago although he did manage to split the post from 13 metres; that from a penalty, another glaring refereeing error! None the less good fun enjoyed by all.
On Monday greatly increased numbers also participated in this year's car treasure hunt with almost fifty vehicles competing. The most successful clue solvers over the two and a half-hour course were the Murphy Mafia from Nahill, who claimed first prize as their reward.
Thanks & appreciation.
A word of thanks on behalf of the committee to all involved in organising this Festival and sports weekend particularly Ciaran, Sean, Enda and Danny who all did Trojan work, and especially to the many hundreds who came out and supported this four day event, that support is very much appreciated

Minor Div 2 Championship Seans 1 - 9 Emyvale 1 - 11 AET
Junior Championship Currin1 - 18 Seans 1- 9
Adult Squads
Last Thursday evening our junior squad bowed out of the '09 championship, comprehensively beaten by a forceful and focus Currin side in St Tiernach Park Clones on a scoreline of Currin 1 - 18 Seans 1 -9. On this occasion our boys played second fiddle in all positions but especially so around the middle of the field were Dick, Ben Clerkin and Owen Morrow held the upper hand for Currin throughout. Despite Currin's undeniable dominance and supremacy a great individual goal by Paraic Mc Guirk midway through the second half closed the gap to just four points and gave our supporters some hope of a revival. Had the next attack yielded even a point things might have been different, instead Currin defended successfully and in the quick counter attack bagged a goal of their own to put them back in the driving seat, and insure their name was in the draw for the next round of this knock competition.
Disappointed, yes, not so much at the defeat but at level of performance everyone involved with the panel knows they can do much better; few if any doing themselves justice on this occassion. Therein lies the challenge, can they, have they character individually and collectively to dust themselves down and learn form this set back. The league is still there to be won but it will take much more application and focus and a far higher level of performance than was witnessed in Clones last week if this remaining single track option to promotion is to be achieved.
Minor
Our minor squad were the dominant side in last Tuesday's night championship encounter with Emyvale at TMH, but as the result harshly demonstrats its scores not possession wins matches. The visitors forced the game to extra time with a great long range point, the last kick in the regulation sixty minutes, and snatched victory with a late goal in second period of extra time, Final score Seans 1 - 9 Emyvale 1-11. Despite absentees, both sides were well matched, no more than three points separating the sides at any time. In truth our boys should have had this game well and truly rapped up long before extra time was needed, but a combination of good defending by the visitors and some terrible inept finishing in front of gaol from our lads handed the initiative and ultimately victory to the Emyvale boys. Our squad will know well this is definitely one game that got away, but all credit to the visitors who needed no second asking to seize their chance, What of our boys? They must regroup and plan for a rematch with Clontibret in the Division 2 league semi-final in Clontibret immediately after this holiday break is over that will probably be on Tuesday 11th August.

Adult Squads
Last Sunday evening our junior squad produced their best performance of the season when running up and impressive tally of 3 - 16 against visitors Blackhill. From Nigel Mc Quillan opening score in the second minute with a delightful point our boys looked in control and when David Mc Entee rattled the back of the Blackhill net five minutes later the visitor were in serious bother, Damien Larkin and Patrick Kieran got in on the scoring act raising white flags before James Treanor raised the first of his two greens after Patrick and Martin Kieran had combined well to put him in the clear to unleash an unstoppable shot to the corner of the net. The forward division were moving sweetly. The midfield pairing of Mark Keogh and Fintan Mc Kenna were holding sway and the rear guard also looked secure and comfortable with Stephen Mc Elvaney Emmett Mc Elvaney and Noel Rice particularly effective. Damien Larkin hit four points three from play between 17th an 26th minute and David Mc Entee converted a close in free to leave the half time score Seans 2 – 9 Blackhill 0 -3.
Manager Benny Kieran introduced Padraig Mc Guirk, Damien Tackney and Stephen Clerkin at the break, James Treanor had extended his side lead after only seven minutes of play with a goal and a point, Damien Larkin increased his tally to six and wing back Noel Rice was on the end of a sweeping Seans move to split the post from thirty metres. Patrick Kieran and Danny Mc Nally joined the fray and Mc Nally was quickly into the action soloing seventy metre out of his own defence to set up Larkin for another nice point. Kierans senior was quickest to react to a poor kick out to land his team last score, leaving the score board Seans 3 – 16 Balckhill 1 -4. This five star performance couldn’t come at a better time and should be a real confidence booster to the team as they face the much stiffer challenge of Currin in their junior championship encounter on Thursday night in St Tiernach Park Clones. Supporters are asked to note this unusual fixture date (Thursday) and starting time of 7.30pm and come out in big numbers to give the team as much support and encouragement as we can.
The reserve squads on Saturday night did just enough to hold out against Clontibret in their reserve championship Crawley Cup clash at TMH. This was a keenly contested game with both sides serving up some good passages of entertaining football. Clontibret took an early lead but our boys kept in touch throughout eventually going in front. Clontibret forced the pace there after as they tried to regain their advantage but with the game hanging in the balance right up to the final whistle our boys did well to keep their noses in front and book a place in the next round of the competition as time run out on the visitors.
The minor squad open their championship campaign on Tuesday night when they entertained Emyvale at TMH, having already lost to this opposition in their earlier league encounter and being on the wrong side of their last two league results they will be doing all the can to turn things around. Unfortunately thing are not helped by the absence on holidays of a couple of key team members for this very important clash non the less we can expect a whole hearted performance from this panel as the endeavour to progress to the next round of this competition.

Sympathy
It was with great sorrow that our club community learned of the passing to her eternal reward of Kathleen Mc Carron Blackrawe. Kathleen a former player with the Seans Ladies club and a driving force in their early development lost her battle for life, a battle she courageously fought since her illness was first diagnosed. The esteem in which Kathleen was held among neighbours friends and our community and beyond was very evident as her tricolour draped coffin bearing a Seans jersey was carried amid very poignant scenes to her final resting place in St Mary's cemetery TMH on Saturday morning last. Local public representative Pat Treanor captured her essence, forthrightness, spirit, loyalty and fortitude in his graveside tribute. We extend our deepest sympathy to her husband Patsy, their children Adrian and Edel and the wider Mc Carron and Harte families. Ar dheis De go raibh a anam.

Youngsters not already enrolled but interested in attending this weeklong activity should contact Ciaran on 087-6840238 for further details. As this week’s participants can testify there are plenty of games and novelty competitions to get involved in, as well as excellent coaching in all disciplines. Definitely an enjoyable and memorable time awaits all who enrol.

Adult Squads
Last Wednesday night in Scotshouse our “A” squad had a comfortable 1 - 12 to 0 -8 victory over a depleted Currin side. Two valuable league points gained but our lads will know they will have to improve considerably if there is to be a similar outcome from their championship clash on the wide open spaces of St Tiernach park Clones on Friday 24th July. They have a couple of opportunities to make the necessary step up in performance that that knock out competition will undoubtly demand.
On Wednesday night 15th July they entertain neighbours Killeevan at TMH, they will be hoping to reverse the result of their visit to the Newbliss a few weeks ago. Then they have home advantage again on Sunday evening for their previously deferred game with Blackhill, which has a 7.00pm throw in starting time.
On Saturday night David Treanor, Enda Murphy and their co selectors will have the combined panels of the ”B” and “C” squads at their disposal as the try and plot the downfall of a very strong visiting Clontibret outfit in the opening game of the Foxhound Travel Reserve Football Championship; Crawley Cup, starting time is also 7.00pm.
Our Under 21 squad on Monday night last put in a very creditable and spirited performance against Finn Gaels the Clones/Currin combination.
They more than matched the locals for most of the game and looked as if they were going to cause an upset, unfortunately strength in depth and the toll of that weekend Punchestown music extravaganza finally catching up on some of out lads. Although losing out in the end on a score line of 1 – 15 to 2 -8 it a shame given the quality of this game that it may turn out to be this squad’s only competitive action of the year.
The minor squad had another tough assignment on Tuesday night when they too played host to Clontibret, after losing out by a goal to Emerald Sarsfields last week, our boys will be hoping they can get back to winning ways against the O’ Neill lads. The visitors have a top four place already under their belts and in this the last game of the league series two more league points for our lads would be invaluable and would almost certainly see them with a semi final place also secured.
Lost & Found.
Left behind and found in Blackhill after last week’s minor game was a mobile phone, the owner can be reunited with their lost property by contacting club chairman Danny Clerkin.

Pitch closed.
Just another reminder that the new pitch is closed to all activities other than competitive games, with four scheduled this week alone it's imperative that all coaching and warm up sessions take place on the old pitch. This restrictive use is necessary to allow the grass recover at least in the short term, but unfortunately depending on weather condition and regularity of home games this may become a permanent feature of our pitch management, especially if we are to maintain the surface and sward in the best possible condition for actual games.

There a big selection of games and other activities on offer with excellent coaching also available, guaranteed to be enjoyable and memorable for all youngsters who participate.
Under age.
The Under 16s are the only under age side in competitive action this week, they travel to Latton on Friday night for the final game of the league series where they hope a win will be enough to see them book a semi final spot. Last week they show glimpses of the football they are capable off with a resounding victory over visitors Sarsfields but they will have to be equally clinical on Friday night against the O Raghaillaigh youngsters if they are to secure a knock out place in this competition.
The Under 8 and 10 squads had a very useful run out against Fergal O Hanlons youngsters on Wednesday last, great enthusiasm and no shortage of skill on display in a very enjoyable game. With the Elco Oil sponsored exhibition games on the August bank holiday Sunday only a few weeks away it most important that all youngsters continue to attend the weekly coaching session.
Now that the U12 and U14 competitions have concluded coaching for the U13 competition schedule to commence on Saturday 15th August will begin shortly; watch for details of times in next weeks column. Our lads opening game is away to Latton, and the other clubs participating in Division 2 are, Truagh, Cremartin, Eire Óg, Doohamlet, Clontibret, and Corduff.
Juvenile Fundraiser. Pig race!!!
Most of our underage panels are now armed with sponsorship cards for this featured event during our Festival & Sports weekend on Saturday evening 1st August. They are gunning for owners and the more hazardous occupation of the jockey; if you fancy owning or steering one or more of these specially trained piglets over the finish line then make sure you get your name on one of these registration/sponsorship cards, you will be supporting coaching and games development at underage level in the club in the process.

U12’s win O' Reilly Memorial Cup… Seans 1- 5 Toome 0 - 7
Our Under 12 youngsters and Toome served up an enthralling game of heartstopping end to end football that had both sets of supporters on the edge of their seats in the final of this Tom Reilly Cup under 12 Division 2 competition played at Killeevan on Saturday last. The efforts and endeavours of both sides are not at all reflected in the low scoring result of this very keenly contested and most enjoyable encounter. Both set of defences were in superb form, Jamie Keenan outstanding in the opening period for Seans and indeed right throughout, not far behind was his partner in the full back line Kyle Treanor. The half back line of Adam O Driscoll and the Mc Nally brothers Arron and Dylan really came into their own in the second half, Dylan putting in a man of the match performance from the centre of the defence and in one of his many forays forward landed the winning score his long range effort bouncing over the bar to swing the result in our boys favour. Niall Kearns and Paul Connolly worked tirelessly in the middle of the field with Kearns the launching pad for many of his team's attacks. Rián Mc Entee on the forty was Seans sole score getter in the first half he opened his team's account with a point from play in the third minute, and was on hand mid way through the half to out jump the opposition on the goal line to force an Aidan Ward lob to the back of the net. Shane Kelly was unfortunate not to get his name on the scoresheet put through as he was on a couple of occasion in that first half by delicate Ward passes only to be thwarted by a very alert Luke Murtagh in the Toome goal. In the second half Kelly combined well firstly to pick out Aidan Ward with a well directed free kick for Ward to land the opening score of the second half and then he worked well with Aaron and Dylan Mc Nally to set up Sean Grant for a nice point, that point proved to be Grant's second of the half having previously found the target in the seventh minute when he converted a close in free.
Niall Murphy was also well to the fore forcing a couple of fine saves and hurried clearance out of Murtagh in Toome goal, he was also in the thick of the action in the second half as Seans threatened to get the upperhand of their opponent. Aidan Ward in his customary role as player maker gained plenty of possession and used it well to set up team mates only to see their efforts stubbornly defended by his immediate marker Daniel Frieskey and Aisling Walsh as well at Toome’s very alert net minder Murtagh. It was intriguing to watch the dual between Ward and the Toome No 3 Frieskey, not only had the full back to cope with the fetching ability and silky skill of the Sean's full forward but he was on hand to make two timely goal line clearance in that second half to keep his side in the match at a time of sustained pressure from our youngsters. At the other end Ashley Corrigan was equally alert gathering well under pressure, but it was his accurate distribution that help considerably in that opening half to help relieve some of the pressure as the St Victor youngsters began to force the pace after Mc Entee’s three pointer. Mark Murphy, Martin Mc Guirk and Luke Perkins were introduced for Seans and this trio such was their effort could feel a wee bit unlucky not to have got the nod for a place on the starting line up. The full panel was Ashley Corrigan, Kyle Treanor, Jamie Keenan, Dylan Mc Nally, Aaron Mc Nally, Adam O' Driscoll, Niall Kearns, Paul Connolly, Sean Grant, Shane Kelly, Niall Murphy, Rián Mc Entee, Aidan Ward, Gareth Mc Guirk, Patrick Mc Phillips, Ryan Connolly, Mark Murphy, Jason Kierans, Martin Mc Guirk, Ryan Hughes, Luke Perkins, Rossa Mc Mahon, Jack Brennan, Thomas Mc Phillips, Damon Hagan, Ryan Lynch, Oisin Mc Entee, Dareren Morgan. Bainisteoir was Enda Murphy ably assisted by James Treanor, Declan Brennan, Noel Rice Fergal Mc Quillan and Aisling Keenan (First aid). Well done to the entire panel and their coaches on this success, not to mention parents and supporters who offered encouragement and support to them since the competition began many delighted to join the youngsters in their celebratory refreshments back at complex on Saturday afternoon.
Juvenile Fundraiser.. Pig Racing!!!!
Following the success of the under 12 squad on Saturday and the valiant effort of the Under 14 panel who finished runners up in their division 2 competition to a polished Magheracloone outfit earlier in the week, indeed the year round activity of our Under 8's and 10's squads. It's timely to remind club members and supporters that over the Sports & Festival weekend 31st July -3rd August, the Youth Committee are organising a Pig Race meeting on Saturday evening 1st August. While this fund raising effort will help defray some of the costs involved in promoting and coaching Gaelic games at under age level; it also serves as an education exercise for the youngsters themselves and helps demonstrated that each one of us can contribute to the well being of the club. Past initiatives by our energetic youth committee have for the most part been adult driven; on this occasion responsibility for the success of this exercise will be delegated to the youngsters themselves. They are the primary promoters' charge with filling sponsorship cards. Like everything else this underage brigade do, whether taking part in competitive game or coaching sessions they are always full of enthusiasm, and no doubt they will bring that same characteristic to this fund raising effort. Can I appeal to all adult when and if approached to sponsor or purchase a pig just give these young boys and girls the shot in the arm they deserve, offer your encouragement but if you really want to see a smile on their face offer your financial support too. Your generosity will be much appreciated and come along on 1st August when you are sure to be well rewarded at what promises to be a novelty fun filled enjoyable evening.

The “A” team played Currin in a star game on Wednesday night 8th July at 8.00pm, with Currin without the services of talisman Dick Clerkin our boys despite travelling to the Scotshouse venue will be expected to take something out of this encounter. League points are important but on this occasion both sides will have more than just an eye on their championship meeting in a couple of week time, when it’s a case of winner takes all. Before that championship encounter in Clones on Friday 24th this squad have another league game, that, home advantage for the visit of Killeevan to TMH on Wed 15th July.
Unfortunately the Under 21game with Emyvale never materialised our lads will hope to get their competitive action under way next week when they take on Finn Gaels in Clones on Monday night at 8.00pm.
The minor squad play host to Clontibret next Tuesday 14th at TMH when top four positions will be very much at stake, this O Neills outfit has already taken the scalp of Emerald Sarsfield. Our boys will be hoping for similar success against this opposition when they travelled to Blackhill on Tuesday, but they can expect the Oram/Blackhill combination to be a much tougher nut to crack on this occasion. With league points still vital these last few remaining game in this very competitive division promises to be exiting affairs. Taking something from these two games is a must if our squad are to secure a top four spot as well as being in the right frame of mind for their championship encounter with Emyvale at TMH on Tuesday 21 July. The fact that Emyvale hold the advantage after their league meeting should be motivation enough for our boys to do their very best to reverse that result and progress in this knockout competition.
Pitch closed.
The new pitch is closed until further notice to all training activities. Coaches and mentor of all club panels, and other organisations who avail of our facilities are ask to uses the old pitch for training and coaching exercises. The new pitch will only be available for official competitive games over the next few weeks; we hope everyone will co operated with this instruction. The restrictive use of the pitch is necessary to allow the sward recover and the remedial work carried by Prunty’s personnel recently a chance to knit in.

No action for the “A” team this week, their next outing is away to Currin on Wednesday 7th July, following on the championship draw at Monday night’s County Board meeting Currin are also the opposition in that knock out competition, this pending confrontation on week ending 23- 25 will no doubt add extra interest to next weeks league clash. I suspect both managers will adopt a cagey approach to this one in the hope that they can get the upper hand in that winner take all game in two weeks time.
The “C”. squad on Sunday last left it very late to claim both points from visitors Monaghan Harps in their Reserve division 4 encounter at TMH. This was a nip and tuck affair throughout. A Nigel Mc Quillan goal with less than ten minutes remaining look to have swung the game in our boys favour, but almost from the kick out the visitors attack was halted illegally in the big square and the penalty converted; advantage Harps, The visitors goal had a couple of narrow escapes before Ciaran Murphy was on hand to coolly side foot a Gary Larkin knock down to the Monaghan net to put our lads in front just as the referee blew for full time.
Next Sunday evening at 7.00pm the “B” squad entertain neighbours Eire Og and on Monday at 8.00pm the Under 21 side make the journey to Emyvale for the opening game in that competition.
The minor squad travel to Blackhill on Tuesday night to take on table toppers Emerald Sarsfields in their minor league division 2 clash. This Oram/ Blackhill combinations backboned as they are by a good sprinkling of county minor stars are riding high on top of the table, and are one of the favourite to take all honours, how our boys fare in this one will be a good indicator as to what the remainder of the season has in store for them, Our boys expect to be there or there abouts come the business end of the season but they will have to show they can compete against the favourites if that dream is to become a reality. Can I encourage our supporters to travel to Blackhill on Tuesday evening for what promises to be another lively encounter in this very keenly contested Minor Division 2 competition.

Juvenile Roundup
A disastrous opening ten minutes in the Under 14 Division 2 Final on Tuesday evening last in Drumhowan all but put paid to any hope our youngsters had of making this a contest. A bigger and stronger Magheracloone side ran in three goals in those opening minutes and although our lads tried their very best there was little they could do to halt or make a comeback against a rampant Maghacloone out fit. Although bitterly disappointed many of them will have to pick themselves up as they line out in another final in a couple of days time. This time in the Under 12 division 2 final which is down for decision next Saturday morning in Killeevan at 11.30am, the opposition on this occasion is provide by Toome.
For the record the 2009 Under 14 squad was James Mc Carron,Conor Freeman Pearse Murphy,Mathew Mc Guirk,David mc Kenna, Shane Farrell, Colin Mc Elvaney, Ryan Mc Guinness, Rián Mc Entee,Niall Kearns, Luke killoran,Sean Freeman,Aidan Ward, Paul bannon,Dylan Mc Nally,Dylan Keenan,Ronan O’ Reilly,Daragh Bell, Shea Mc Caffrey, Niall Murphy, Gareth Mc Guirk

The “A” squad last week end took three points out of a possible four when they were good value for their win over Currin on Friday evening, although this game was a much closer affair than the final score line suggests. On Monday night they were lucky to secure a share of the spoils against a very determined visiting Oram side. In a forty two minute long second half which saw Seans influential midfielder Damien Connolly stretchered off with a nasty leg injury, Oram too had to make a couple of enforced changes due to John Moen and Ryan Mc Guinness sustaining shoulder injuries. This was a keenly contested game played in sporting fashion the injuries accidental and more to do with the hard ground than any intent. The visitors looked to have the points in the bag having posted three great long range points in the 37th 38th and 39th minute, but Nigel Mc Quillan in Seans last attack forced the ball over the goal line despite the Oram goalkeepers best effort, that after Damien Larkin had done well to recycle the ball preventing it going over the end line to set up Mc Quillan for his last gasp equaliser. With their game scheduled for Wednesday night against Blackhill now deferred and a bye in round eleven of this Dr Ward Cup competition on 1st July their next outing is away to Currin on Wednesday 8th July.
The B squad travelled to Corduff on Sunday night last but came away empty handed going under to the Gaels on a score line of Corduff 1-13 Seans 0 – 13. Their next outing is against neighbours Eire Og on Sunday 5th July at TMH at 7.00pm. Competitive action for the “C” squad resumes on Monday night next when they too have another neighbouring outfit to TMH, Monaghan Harps; throw in time is 8.00pm.
The Under 21 squad are reminded that their first outing is away to Emyvale on Monday 6th July and with the fixture scheduled for our other adult team now a little less congested team manager Benny Kieran will endeavour to fit in a separate training get together for this particular age group, this session should be in addition to attending the regular weekly adult sessions.
The minor panel had a very useful run out against Monaghan Harps in a friendly at TMH on Sunday last; the result was of little consequence although for the record our boys shaded it in the end. Both sides using the occasion to shake of the cobwebs of inactivity due to exam commitments. Unfortunately our lads will be without a competitive game until 7th July when they are down to take on table toppers Emerald Sarsfields in Blackhill. No doubt the management team will be doing all they can to try and get over this formidable hurdle its important that all panellist make themselves available and attend these coaching sessions, Gary / Colm will be in touch to reinforce the important of a full turn out.

Juvenile Roundup
Both the Under 14 and Under 12 panels have made it to the final of their respective competitions, the Under 12’s after a very shaky start seen off the challenge of Cremartin to book their place, while the Under 14’s had to come from six point down at half time to produced a strong second half performance to overcome Latton to secure their place in the final against Magheracloone on Monday night next in Drumhowan at 7.00pm (see match reports on club web site) In preparation for their final appearance on Saturday 4th July the Under 12 squad have a friendly against Monaghan Harps on Thursday night at TMH at 7.30pm. Training for the U14 squad continues at the usual time this week. Adult Teams.
No action for the "A" team last weekend, but they do have a very busy schedule over the next ten days. On Friday night next they entertain Currin at TMH, and on Monday night they also have home advantage for the visit of Oram, completion of these two previously deferred fixtures will see the Dr. Ward Cup competition at the half way stage. Favourable results from these outings would see our adult squad well placed in the league table with a full series of games still to be played. Nothing is guarantee and their opponents will have eyes on a top four place in this competition too, our boys will have to be at their very best if they are to take the maximum points on offer. On Wednesday 24th June Blackhill also make the journey to TMH for the opening game in the second half of the competition, home advantage our supporter hope will be enough to swing that result in our boys favour; but again the team will have to play to their true potential if they are to stop the visitors reversing the result of the opening game of the competition.
The "B" squad had to work very hard to over come the challenge presented by Aughnamullen’s second string on their visit to TMH last Sunday evening last. Three first half points from both Danny Mc Nally and Nigel Mc Quillan and one each from Stephen Clerkin Colin Murphy and Damien Connolly eased our boys into a 0 – 9 to 0 – 5 interval lead. Connolly doubled his tally in the second minute and in between Murphy brace in the eighth and 13th minute goalkeeper Darren Mc Ardle was called on to make a spectacular save to deny the visitors a certain goal. Nigel Mc Quillan also raised a white flag but it was wing back brother Eamonn who put the game out of reach of the visiting side when he popped up on the edge of the square midway through that second half to blast the ball to the net for the only goal of the game. Danny Mc Nally brought his tally to five with two excellent struck points to leave the final score Seans 1 – 14 Aughnamullen 0 – 9.
The team on duty was Darren Mc Ardle, Paul Mc Phillips Fintan Mc Kenna, Ruairi Mc Carron, Eamonn Mc Quillan, Paraic Coyle, Philip Farrell. David Mc Entee, Damien Connolly, Barry Mc Guinness, Stephen Mc Elvaney, Darra Freeman, Nigel Mc Quillan, Stephen Clerkin, Danny Mc Nally, subs used Colin Murphy, Adrian Mc Carron, Murt Cleere, Paul Durnian, Ciaran Murphy.
The "C" squad on Monday night after their long journey to Killanny had to withstand a late surge from the home side, but they managed to survive to claim both league point by the minimum of margins Seans 1 - 12 Killanny 1 - 11.
Under 21.
The under 21 squad get their campaign under way with a home game against Emyvale in three weeks time on Monday 6th July at 8.00pm. All eligible panel members should attend senior training which will be held this week on Wednesday night at 8.00pm, because of the fairly hectic games schedule for the week ahead they should check with team manager Benny Kieran 087-2590604 for the date and time of the next session. Many of this squad are already playing competitive football for the club at some level, but there are I believe sufficient numbers of players aged between 18 and 21 to represent the club in this competition; if they make themselves available. A quick glimpse at some of the players in this age category include Christopher Hughes, Noel Rice, Fergal Mullan, John Kearns Seamus Conaty, Patrick Kieran, Conor Mc Elvaney, Enda Mc Entee, David Mc Entee, Conal Mc Crudden, Darren Kiely, Murt Cleere, Donal Mc Entee, Stephen Hurson, Damien Clerkin, Niall Prunty, this list is not exhaustive but are names that readily spring to mind. Suffice to say there is an open invitation to all those under the age limit of 21 interested in representing the club in this competition to come along and take part in these training sessions. There are only three clubs entered in the north division, win two games and a final appearance beckons; all games are scheduled to be played on Monday nights beginning on 6th July.

Juvenile Roundup
Well done to our U12 panel who booked their place in the final of The Division 2 Cup competition on Saturday last at TMH when the overcame a gallant Cremartin side on a scoreline of Seans 6-6 Cremartin 3 -9. The visitors raced into and early 2 - 6 to nil lead but our youngsters managed to haul them back to level term at the interval thanks to three goals from Aidan Ward and one from Niall Murphy. A fourth Ward goal in the second half and one from substitute Luke Perkins kept our boys noses in front at the finish and a date with Toome in the final in a couple of weeks time (See club web site for more details)
The under 14 squad will be hoping they can emulate the achievement of the U12 panel when they take on Latton in their Division 2 semi-final in TMH on Tuesday evening.
Now that the exams are almost over competitive action for the Under 16 and minor squads will soon be recommencing, it important that both squads continue to attend their respective coaching sessions on time and in big numbers. Under 16 travel to Killanny for a quarter final championship clash with the Geraldines on Friday 3rd July, while the minor panel resume their activity also against Killanny next Tuesday at TMH at 8.00pm

Succumbing to a late injury time match winner on Wednesday night as they did after Damien Connolly’s long range effort had looked as if he had salvaged a share of the spoils against Clones; our adult squad were in determined mood to take both points from their visit to Toome on Sunday last.
With a few changes in personnel from Wednesday night’s selection our boys put in a much more work man like performance. The home side were always chasing the game as early as the third minute when Shane O Neill opened the scoring with a well taken point from play. James Treanor jinked his way past several defenders a couple of minutes later to double his teams tally. Noel Rice from his wing back position was well forward to make it three mid way through the half.
Toome got of the mark with a well directed free kick a minute later. Patrick Kieran landed Sean’s 4th point after good work initially by fullback Fintan Mc Kenna and involving Martin Kieran, Noel Rice, Mark Keogh and Damien Larkin, the latter’s final pass putting Kierans in the clear to extend the lead. Gavin Flanagan had accuracy and distance to spare landing a 45metre free, the result of a fine save by Darren Mc Ardle from a Stephen Llambe pile driver after the classy Lambe had for once shown a clean pair of heels to the Seans defence.
Mid fielder Keogh under pressure hit his teams fifth point from play, then a high speculative lob was well collected by the Toome keeper but Patrick Kieran chasing down what appeared a hopeless cause got his hand to the attempted clearance and bundled the ball over the line but not before the referee had adjudged the goalkeepers effort to redeem himself as illegal hauling Kieran to the ground as he did; from the resultant penalty Mark Keogh blasted the ball to the net giving the unfortunate keeper no chance. On the stroke of half time Gavin Wilson had a fine point from play to leave the scoreboard at the interval reading Toome 0 -3 Seans 1 - 5
On resumption from the throw in Patrick Kieran had a point from play and Damien Larkin punished indiscipline in the Toome defence from the kick out with a well directed free kick from thirty metres. Darren Mc Ardle was by far the busiest goalkeeper as Toome upped the tempo and their work rate but both side were guilty of poor shot selection and inaccuracy, Toome relying on converted frees in the 8th 13th and 27th minute from Stephen Quinn, Shane Moen, and Gavin Flanagan respectively to increase their tally. The visitors too failed to raise a flag for all of 25 minutes Damien Larkin finally ending the drought when he found the target from a twenty metre free, and the same player completed the scoring with a monstrous long range effort to leave the final score Toome 0 -6 Seans 1 -9.
The team on duty; Darren Mc Ardle, Paraic Coyle, Fintan Mc Kenna,Emmet Mc elvaney, Noel Rice, Martin Kieran, Philip Farrell, Christopher Hughes, Mark Keogh, Darren Kiely, Patrick Kieran, Damien Larkin, Shane O’ Neill, Danny Mc Nally, James Treanor, subs used Damien Connolly for Christopher Hughes.
Next Saturday Oram are visitors to TMH for a 7 o clock evening throw in, and on Sunday also at 7 pm Aughnamullen make a similar visit to take on our B team in the Reserve League Division 3 competition. The C squad are also in action on Monday night when they make the long journey to Killanny for an 8 o clock start

Juvenile Roundup
Our Under 12 panel will attempt to book their place in the final of the U12 Division 2 Cup competition at TMH when they entertain Cremartin in one of the eleven semi-finals down for decision in this age group next Saturday. Throw in is at 3 o clock with extra time on the cards if required, these lads have done extremely well to qualify for this stage of the competition and I expect parents, family members and supporter to turn out in strength to give these youngster the encouragement they deserve.
On Tuesday evening also at TMH at 7 o’clock it a similar rallying call for our Under 14 squad who take on Latton with a place in the final of the division 2 Cup competition the prize for the winners.
Training for the Under 16 and minor panels continue at the usual time, despite the added pressure of exams at this time everyone on both panels are expected to attend these sessions.
Our Under 8 panel made another most enjoyable excursion to Cloghan last Saturday participating in the Go Games programme, enjoyment and inclusiveness is the core elements of these go games, and it’s no wonder these types of conditions games has such an appeal for these youngsters. Well done to Gerard, Declan and all the crew who offer so much encouragement and give so willingly of their time coaching these youngsters.

JFC Emyvale 1 - 12 Seans 1 - 10
U12 Div 2 Latton 1 -7 Seans 2- 13
Adult Teams.
Last Friday night leaving the Junior football championship game between Emyvale and Mc Dermots in Scotstown a neutral remarked " the best team was bate". True or not, this statement will be of little consolation to our panel of players who must now regroup and hope they can progress via the back door in this knock out competition. In the opening half they were certainly worthy of the comment going in as they did four point to the good on a scoreline of Seans 1 - 7 Emyvale 0 - 6.
This was a lively affair with both sides producing some good incisive football. Our boys worked tremendously hard in that opening half to curb the aerial threat of Emyvale around the middle of the field and were reward with a plentiful supply of possession. Inside forward men Patrick Kieran and Damien Larkin had the better of the exchanges against their opposite numbers and were always a threat; Larkin was quickest to react to blast the ball to the Emyvale net midway through the half after Kieran's original attempt at goal had come back of the upright. Also well to the fore were Shane O Neill, David Mc Entee and making his championship debut Danny Mc Nally.
For the second half Emyvale made a number of positional changes the most obvious and as it turned out a match winning move to shift Brendan Mc Kenna from midfield to full forward. Starting that second half in whirlwind fashion Emyvale reduced the deficit to a single point after only five minutes of play; our boys rallied, and extended the lead to three again, a lead that should have been more as our tally of second half wides began to mount. Emyvale again pegged the margin between the teams back to a single point and although our defence was constantly under the cosh they held firm and never looked like being breached as the game entered the closing minutes. Then the benefit of route one football was clear for all to see, the high ball into the danger area fell to an Emyvale forward and although goalkeeper Darren Mc Ardle saves the shot comfortably the referee penalised the defenders attempted block and awarded a penalty!
The spot kick was expertly dispatched by Martin Mc Aree out of reach of the diving Mc Ardle to the corner of the net, to give his side a hardly deserved but gratefully accepted two point winning margin and more importantly passage into the first round proper of the junior championship. This turn of events was a bitter pill for our boys to swallow, but in truth they should have been well out of sight long before the penalty conversion. They have little time to lick their wounded pride as they are back in league action against Clones on Wednesday night at Pairc Sheáin Mhic Dhiarmada and on Sunday they travel to Toome for a 2.30 throw in.

Juvenile round up.
With both the Under 12 and U14 competition nearing the semi final stages our boys have an idle weekend as they have no outstanding unplayed games. Saturday should see the final series of unplayed league games completed and cup and shield semi final places decided. Semi final dates for the U12 competition is Saturday June 13th. Its important for all panels included U16 and minors that they continue to attend their scheduled weekly training session.
Congratulations
Congratulations to Bernard Connolly, Patrick Mc Guinness, Mick Lawless and James Murphy, this foursome beat all comers to land the coveted first prize in the Monaghan GAA Supporters Club Golf Classic at sun scorched Rossmore on the June bank holiday Monday just past. This result certainly give truth to the old adage practice makes perfect. Well done gents.

Next Friday night at 8.15pm in Scotstown our adult squad take on Emyvale in the first round of the Junior Football championship, a championship journey that everyone involved with the team and club hopes will lead to promotion. Team manager Benny Kieran has with the exception of James Treanor a full panel to select from. While promotion is the ultimate goal he will be well aware that it's a case of one step at a time, and can look no further than this game with Emyvale who are sure to prove a formidable stumbling block in that quest; having aspirations of their own to return quickly to intermediate football and with Gerry Mc Carville at the helm they are unlikely to lack motivation on that score. Our boys enter this game having already shaded their league encounter by a couple of points, but that result will count for nought come Friday night, both managers unwilling to show all their cards on that occasion knowing this championship fixture was just around the corner. Our boys will have to up their work rate considerably if they are to repeat the outcome of that league meeting, its certainly well within their capabilities. Our supporters I hope will turn out in big numbers to give them every encouragement and hopefully when the final whistle blows we will be celebrating a victory and progression to the next round of the competition.
It back to the league competition next week with games against Clones on Wednesday night at home and away to Toome on Sunday.

Adult Teams.
On Saturday night last in a reversal of the original fixture venue, our first team proved too strong for visitors Killanny with two first half goals from Damien Larkin and David Mc Entee providing the launching pad for this victory. Our boys opened briskly playing some scintillating stuff in those early minutes but didn't maintain that momentum. No doubt this will be of concern to team manager Benny Kieran as he plots and plans to get over the first round junior championship hurdle of Emyvale in Scotstown on Friday 29th May. However he will be pleased with the scores amassed in this game and the successful introduction of minor star Danny Mc Nally to senior football: Mc Nally rowed in with two well taken points on his debut. With that championship fixture just around the corner and Monaghan travelling to Derry on Sunday there is little adult activity on the playing field this week. The C squad are out on Wednesday night against Fergal O' Hanlons check with manager for venue, and the B side travel up the road to take on our neighbours Aghabog on Friday night, both game have a 7.30 starting time.
The Minors are now also entering stand down mode as the exam period approaches; they completed their pre-exam series of games on Tuesday night last with a comfortable win over Na Mullai Sarsfields, the Eire Óg/Killeevan combination, admittedly not before coping with a few scary moments as the visitors rattled the home net on no fewer than four occasions. Individually the defenders are in a rich vein of form but as a collective unit they are struggling to shut out the opposition, a fact that will not have been lost on their management team, no doubt they will be working on creating their own form of blanket defence at training over the coming week.
That training will continue as usual at the regular early Sunday morning starting time, and it's important that all panel members make the effort to attend.

Those who booked ticket through the club should note that the allocation of tickets received will be distributed by An runaí Sean Mc Elvaney on Friday night in the complex from 9.30pm to 10.00pm. Everyone's co-operation in attending and collecting tickets at this time would be much appreciated.
Under age Scene
The Under 14 squad were caught by a late Donaghmoyne surge at TMH on Saturday last, two goal swinging the game in favour of the visitors after it appeared our boys had things well and truly wraped up. They can redeem themselves on Tuesday night next when they have another home game this time Latton will be the visitors; throw in time is 7.00pm.
The Under 12 panel are asked to note that the starting time for their schedule fixture on Saturday next against Magheracloone is brought forward and will now be played at TMH at 12 noon.

Lá na gClub.
Baked in glorious sunshine as we were last Sunday, young and old turned out in great number to participate in club activities celebrating the 125th anniversary of Cumann Luthchleas Gael. Proceeding commenced with mass in the complex at 2.00pm, Fr Tom Coffey the celebrant. Mini side games for Under 8's up through the age groups followed. A puck fada competition attracted plenty of attention and despite the best efforts of fellow competitors to put him off Damien Larkin herculean strike of 76 metres was not to be beaten, although some did come close.
Club chairman Danny Clerkin in his short address prior to the unveiling of the plague captured the essence of the association and this special occasion. The official unveiling was performed by Mickey Mc Mahon our longest serving club chairman holder of that office for 17 years and now one of our esteemed Club presidents. As in Centenary year 1984 when a number of trees on either side of the entrance gate were planted, like the club they have grown some in the intervening 25 years, On this occasion the task of adding to our tree collection fell to another one of our much revered club presidents Seamus Mulligan. Seamus performed the official tree planting ceremony amid much applause and plenty of advice from the many green fingered experts in the audience. Mickey and Seamus acknowledge the honour they felt at being invited by the club to perform these duties. Upstairs in our social centre a host of talented local musicians regaled patrons, making the remainder of the evening very special as music song and the odd dance became the order of the day. Across the hall the BaZ beat had tot and teen of all ages in the groove and making moves on the dance floor ……children really enjoying themselves. A special word of thanks to all who helped make this CLG La na gClub special and most enjoyable.
Tickets Derry V Monaghan
Application for tickets for the Ulster Football Championship game Derry v Monaghan must be with Club secretary Sean Mc Elvaney no later that 5.00pm on Friday 15th May (that's this Friday) late applications will not be entertained
Please get your order in early to avoid disappointment. At time of going to press the Ulster Council have not released details of ticket prices. They have confirmed that because of ground capacity limits there will be no family tickets options available, however, there will be a limited number of juvenile group tickets available for purchase by the club and we intend to find a way within the club to accommodate families with these. If you would ordinarily have ordered a family ticket, please let Sean know ASAP the numbers required and we will endeavour to group all these together as a juvenile group and divide the cost proportionally. To insure this runs smoothly the club will probably organise transport so that this juvenile group can all travel together but it is imperative that Sean knows the extent of demand before any of the fore going can be put in place.

Lá na gClub.
Next Sunday 10th May all GAA clubs across the country will have a break from their usual competitive games activity; and will be concentrating their energies instead on celebrating within their own catchment areas and community the 125th anniversary of the founding of Cumann Luthchleas Gael. Our day's activities begins with the celebration of mass in the complex at 2.00pm, followed by mini 7 a side games from 3 to 5.00pm for the younger members boys and girls of our community. After 5 it's the turn of the adults to get involved in these mini-sided games. The emphasis is not about skill or ability, speed or stamina, it about PARTICIPATION, hopefully the weather will be kind to us, and everyone no matter how remotely involved in the club will come along to help celebrate 125 years of the GAA.
Around 6.30pm a plaque marking this milestone will be unveiled. After the unveiling ceremony we have a disco for the younger age groups that will keep them bopping till bedtime; well 8.00pm. Over the course of the afternoon and evening those in our community that play a musical instrument are invited along to our social centre for an Irish music session. Like the activities out doors you don’t' have to be an All Ireland medal winner to take part, the focus is on maximising involvement, and while there are many proud recipients of these coveted momentos in our community; on this occasion if you have the inclination to play then you are most welcome to come along and joint in the ceol agus craic, bring a friend too.
This is an open invitation to everyone to come along and joint in the celebrations sporting and or culturally at whatever level of involvement they wish too.
Adult Squad
No activity for our first team this weekend, Emyvale visit TMH on Wednesday night 6th May, following on their two point defeat at the hands of Killeevan last Friday night they will be anxious to get back into the winning grove as quickly as possible. Adding extra spice to this mid week encounter is the fact that both clubs meet again in less than a month's time in the first round of the Junior championship.
Both reserve squads are in action next week on Monday night the "B"'s travel to Clontibret while on Wednesday night the "C" squad make the journey to Toome. To insure they consolidate themselves in upper end of the league tables it's important that all members of both panels make themselves available for these week evening games.
The head of steam I mentioned last week in relation to our minor squad was well and truly deflated last week by a better-balanced and more physical Emyvale side. Like the junior squad on Friday night they too had more scores than their opponents but the old adage goals win matches again proved true. This week they have Cremartin as visitors to TMH where they will be hoping home advantage can swing the result in their favour.
Juvenile round up.
Another exciting and productive excursion to Cloghan last Saturday well done to the travelling coaches and the young participants in these Go game exercises.
The two goals the under 14 squad scored in their match with Cremartin on Saturday last proved to be the difference between the teams at the finish. This result helps put this panel back on track and well positions although early day yet to book a place in the knockout stages of this competition.
Unfortunately and certainly not through lack of effort but more because of number shortage the U16 squad have a mountain to climb if they are to feature in the knock out stage of their division 2 competition. They suffered a heavy defeat at the hand of a very useful Carrick outfit last week, this Thursday 7th May they will be hoping to compete much more successfully against Donaghmoyne when the Fontoney squad come to TMH throw in is 7.15pm
The Under 12 panel travel this week to Cremartin where they will have to be at full strength and at their very best if they are to come away with even a share of the spoils.
Check with team coaches for bus timetable and assembly points.

Adult Squad
Action for our first team squad resumes on Friday night when they make the short journey to Newbliss for this rescheduled fixture with Killeevan Throw in time is 7.15pm. Our boys will be hoping to double their points tally but this is not going to be easy against a Killeevan side who have been knocking on the promotion door over the last few years. All involved with the panel will know they have to perform much better than they did in their opening outing if additional league points are to be secured.
On Wednesday night at TMH they have a rehearsal of their first round Junior championship game when they welcome Gerry Mc Carville's Emyvale outfit. Both team no doubt will have an eye on that end of May fixture and will be well aware of the psychological advantage a victory on Wednesday night would do for either side, should make for an interesting contest especially with very valuable league points at stake.
Both our reserve squads went through last week's programme of games unbeaten although the "C" squad in a reversal of the original fixture venue on Monday night did drop a point to a spirited Currin side. Short several regulars, a couple of our active referees stepping into the breech to make up the regulation numbers, the team will be disappointed that they allowed the visitors whittle away a five point advantage in the closing minutes of this game to take a share of the spoils. No games on the immediate horizon for the C squad but the "B" have home advantage on Wednesday night (29th) for the visit of Emyvale and on Monday 11th May they have an away game against Clontibret.
Minors
The minor squad have built up a nice head of steam wining their opening three outings, last Tuesday night's encounter with visitors Carrickmacross a real ding dong battle our boys eventually pulling away in the final minutes of the game to clinch victory. This week they face the challenge of Emyvale and next week May 5th they cross swords with Cremartin who are visitors to TMH.
Juvenile round up.
The Under 12 side having lead visitors Clontibret for most of last Saturday division 2 match at TMH seemed to have surrendered the two points when the O'Neill youngsters turned a four point deficit into a two point advantage banging in two goals in quick succession with full time nearing. Few would have thought there was enough time for our lads to recover, but recover they did admittedly a bit fortuitously with two goals of their own to wrest victory from the jaws of defeat.
For the Under 16's on Friday night there was no such fairy story both individually and collectively they can play much better and although they missed a number of guilt edge chances, unfortunately on this occasion they never really found there feet and were comprehensively over ran by a fiercely determined and strong Maraghacloone contingent. On Friday 1st May they are scheduled to travel to Carrickmacross where they will be hoping they can deliver a much improved performance and maybe with a little bit luck that was so obviously absent at TMH they can come away with a result. At time of going to press with the junior team also in action on Friday night this game may be brought forward to Thursday evening check with mentors to verify any changes. Following on from their first defeat in their last outing away to Magheracloone the U14's will be hoping to get back on track against Cremartin on Saturday next at 3.30pm Coaching sessions for this age group continue on Tuesday evenings at 6.45pm everyone is asked to note the time and make the effort to be present.
Cumann na mBunscol.
Both St Michael's and St Mary's national schools qualified for the finals of the seven a side C na mB blitz competition in Rooskey on Thursday morning next (30th) at 11.00am. In the preliminary rounds last week both panels more than held their own with the other schools in their section Latnamard, Tydavnet, Gransha, St Mary's Monaghan, Magherarney, and Urbleshanny to win their way through the round robin series of games and book a place in the finals. Credit must go the teachers for their encouragement and dedication, and to the children involved for their tremendous appetite to do their very best. This break through for both schools is an encouraging sign that the role of the club in providing coaching assistance and support in promoting Gaelic games is having a very positive effect. I think we have a winning formula for our schools but equally as important a firm foundation for the future of our club and GAA games in the parish. Well done to everyone concerned in getting to this stage of the competition; and might I urge our supporters those that can to come along on Thursday morning and give both school teams support and encouragement …future Seans stars will be in the thick of the action!

Web site
www.seanmcdermotts.net Players, members and supporters are reminded and encouraged to visit the club's web site for all information around fixtures, match reports, and other relevant club info. Configured by Adrian Mc Entee over five year's ago the site still retains and has a modern look about it, which says a lot about Adrian's original design. Further collaboration between himself and an Runaí recently has seen the site tweaked even further; pages that were always easily navigated are now updated almost on a daily basis. Keen to develop the site as one stop reliable and up to date information point for everyone associated with the club whether at home or abroad, Sean is leaving no stone unturned to have the info posted hot of the press. It's a work in progress as we begin to update the club history and other associated pages but well worth a visit: if only to view the pictures an try and identify the big bloke with the blue rinse, or see Enda in his Mickey Harte pose, well captured by our amateur photographer. Seamus Mulligan can take a bow too one wouldn't see a straighter line in Croke Park.
Adult Squad
In a keenly contested game played in ideal conditions at TMH on Monday night our reserve "B" squad had a disciplined one point winning margin over visitors Scotstown. A delicate chipped goal from Nigel Mc Quillan and one from veteran Gary Larkin on the end of a good team move in the opening half gave our boys a 2 - 3 to 1 -3 interval lead. Although the visitors did reduced that deficit to a single point in the closing minutes stout defensive play from Padraic Coyle and Fintan Mc Kenna throughout helped to denied Scotstown a share of the spoils. On Wednesday this week they play host to Truagh, and next week (Wed) they have another home game against Emyvale.
The "C" squad had a comfortable win in their reversed fixture with Rockorry on Sunday evening last at TMH, two second half goals from Gary Larkin and Nigel Mc Quillan the difference between the teams at the finish. Next Saturday evening they also play Emyvale and travel to Scotshouse on Monday to play Currin, both game have a 7.15pm starting time. Because of college and work commitments not all members of these reserves squads are available for week evening games. Panels are stretched and adding to the manager problem of team selection lack of numbers is a headache he can well do without; its important then that all locally based players make themselves available especially as these evening games will be coming along thick and fast in an effort to keep this years extended fixture programme on track. It appears one has a better chance of getting a start during the week than for week end games when the managers has to earn his keep with whole panel at the disposal; that is of course if you turn out!
With home advantage on Tuesday night the minor squad will be hoping to keep their 100% record in tact after the visit of Carrickmacross to TMH see match reports on website. Early morning training continues at the usual time in preparation for their next outing away to Emyvale on 28th.
Training for the senior squad continues on Tuesday and Friday nights at the usual starting time of 8.00pm all panellists are requested to attend, Killeevan provide the opposition in their next outing on May bank holiday weekend in round 3 of the JFL.
Juvenile round up.
Pride of place this week goes to our youngest stars; all 19 of them who made the journey to Cloghan on Saturday last to participate in the Under 8 Go Games blitz. Our travelling army of youngsters were divided into two teams; team one had three exciting games against Tyholland, Oram, and Fergal O Hanlons while team two had equally intense encounters with Drumhowan, Aghabog, and Ballybay. These conditioned games are a great exercise and something all the children look forward to participating in, for the record the squad was Megan Mohan, Orlaith Mc Elvaney, Daynah Mc Elvaney, James Murphy, Oisin Mc Kenna, Fearghal Clerkin, Zach Perkins, Tim Perkins, Darren Kelly, Josh Hagan, Conor Brennan, Cathal Mc Mahon, Fintan Keogh, Dean Mc Phillips, Marc Melvin, Killian Murphy, Shane Mc Clave. A word of appreciation to Declan, Gerard and all our travelling coaching crew, not forgetting young Luke and Jack who were invaluable assistants on the day.
The Under 12 squad have a home game on Saturday for the visit of Clontibret, starting time is 3.30pm, hope to see a big crowd out supporting these youngsters. Mixed fortunes for the U16 and U14 squads in their respective games last week. After some positional switches which saw Jamie Mc Elvaney play a pivotal roll in defence in the No 6 shirt and Adrian Prunty being equally influential in the middle of the field the under 16 panel got their campaign of the ground with their first win in three, overcoming Cuchullains the inside forward pair of Shane Larkin and Kevin Mc Mahon contributing handsomely to the team impressive tally. They will have their work cut out to put back to back success together this week as they are entertaining a very useful Magheracloone outfit on Friday night at TMH, again support appreciated.
For the U14's it was their first defeat in three, comprehensively beaten by a strong Magheracloone team who never allowed our lads into their usual pattern of play. Plenty of work then for their coaches to undertake at the next couple of training sessions in preparation for their next outing the visit of another strong contingent Cremartin on Sat 2nd May to TMH.

Congratulation & best wishes
Congratulations to the Emyvale club on their success in the All Ireland Scor Finals last weekend and best wishes to Banty and the Monaghan lads in Croke Park on Sunday.
Jersey Appeal.
We are trying to recover a number of adult team jerseys that have gone missing, well have been mislaid. If anyone is in possession of one or more of these jerseys or knows of their whereabouts (suspect they maybe lying in somebody cupboard or attic) can they pass on the info to Benny Kieran, David Treanor or Enda Murphy. Unfortunately we cannot offer a reward for their recovery or safe return except to say you will have the grateful appreciation of the managers concerned if you can help locate them.

No action for the first team at the week end, there is a full round of fixtures scheduled next week but with nine teams competing in the Junior league it is the turn of our boys to have the bye. Following Monaghan’s demolition of Laois on Sunday, promotion and a place in the Alianz NFL division 2 final secured the next scheduled outing in the JFL against Currin on Saturday 25th will no doubt be rearranged. As can be seen from the fixture guide games are coming thick and fast for our reserve squads, but with no competitive action over the next couple of weeks for the first team it most important that all members of this squad attend their regular twice weekly training sessions.
The B squad travelled to Smithboro on Saturday and had a well merited two point victory over the Eire Óg lads, two goals in the open half from Paul Durnin and Nigel Mc Quillan giving our boy enough of a cushion to hold out to claim the two points. Played in terrible underfoot conditions both side have to be complimented for the quality of football served up. Next Monday night they have home advantage for the visit of Scotstown to TMH, and they retain that advantage for the visit of Truagh on Wednesday night, both games have a 7.00pm throw in.
On Sunday the “C” also have home advantage when the entertain Rockcorry, this is a reversal of the schedule fixture all members please not this game is at TMH throw in 7.00pm.
Our minor squad got off to a winning start in the MFL Div 2 competition getting the better off Patrick Emmetts at TMH see match report on web site www.seanmcdermotts.net. This week they travel to Toome for their game with Cuchulians the Toome/Doohamlet combination and next week they have Carrickmacross at home at TMH starting time is 7 o’clock

Coaching for the 8’s & 10's panels continue this week at the usual times; the Under 8’s travel to Cloghan on Saturday to take part in a go games blitz. This is a very enjoyable and most important exercise, all children eligible to attend will be informed of travel arrangements and timetable at their coaching sessions this week.
For those involved in coaching our youngest age groups and interesting coaching workshop title -Adopting Fun Games U12 (10's/8's) Football takes place in Cloghan on Thursday 16th April from 7.30-9.00pm facilitator for this outdoor session is Diarmuid Marsden.
The Under 12 squad collected there first brace of points on Saturday last when they proved too strong for Inniskeen’s youngsters, this was a good team performance with everyone on the panel getting a chance to show off the skills.
The Under 14 squad have another away game on Saturday; they travel to Magheracloone for a 3.30 pm throw. Having gained maximum points from their opening two outing they will be anxious to continue in that vein although the Mitchell youngsters will have their eyes of the points as well. Last week they had a very useful friendly against Truagh.Squad training continues as usual on Tuesday evening at 7.00pm, again it’s important that all members of the panel attend this hour long session.
The Under 16 panels continue to get together at their regular time slot on Wednesday night at 7.00pm. The lack of numbers in this panel is not helped at the moment by the unavailability of James Mc Aleer Stephen Mc Carron and Shane Larkin through injuries, everyone involved with this squad hope they shake of their injuries soon. On Friday night they have another tough assignment when they travel to Dohamlet for their game with Cuchulains at 7 o clock.

After a nervous first half performance in the opening Dr Ward Cup game of the season on Sunday last; Blackhill held all the advantages and a well deserved interval lead 1 - 4 to 0 - 4.Our boys eventually getting to grip with the opposition but not before they had extended that interval lead to six with the second half only four minutes old. The revival started in the eight minute James Treanor and Damien Larkin combining well to force the Emeralds net minder into a fantastic save, the inside duo were quickest to react and had the umpire reaching for the green flag as they jointly scrambled the breaking ball across the goal line.
Blackhill showed their intent with two well taken points from play in the 12th and 14th minutes but Larkin tied things up at 1 -8 apiece with a well taken point in the 20th minute; the same player had been on hand a couple of minutes earlier to finish in style a sweeping move started by corner back Emmett Mc Elvaney. Seans were on a roll and wing back Noel Rice was well forward and put his side in front for the first time in the match in 21st minute. The decisive score of the game came a minute later Patrick Kieran the sole survivor of the last junior campaign used his strength well to fend of some hefty but fair challenges to carry thirty metres to the edge of the square before unleashing an unstoppable shot to the roof of the net. David Mc Entee raised a white flag with a great long range effort out on the wing, but it was left to veteran Kieran to complete the scoring with point from play and a free in injury time to leave the final score Blackhill 1 - 9 Seans 2 - 12.
Two valuable league points secured, and evidence that there is potential in this squad if only seen in glimpse on Sunday. Manager Benny Kieran is confident that with plenty of hard work and commitment in the weeks and months ahead he can harness that potential. To that end training sessions continue on Tuesday and Friday nights at 8.00pm its imperative that everyone on ALL adult squads attend.
On Sunday evening the "C" squad proved too strong for visitors Killanny and ran out winners at the finish on a scoreline of Seans 1 - 11 Killanny 1 -7. A Paul Durnan rocket from close range helping our boy into a lead they never subsequently lost, and two long distant efforts from John Paul Mc Entee consolidating that advantage. Paul Mc Phillips revelled in his new full back role, Eamonn Mc Quillan and Darren Kiely showed up well in the half back line with some telling interceptions, and veteran stalwart Gary Lakin superb catch in the middle of the field alone was worth the admission charge; all in all a good team performance. This squad have another tough assignment on Easter Monday at 7.00pm when they have home advantage for the visit of Emyvale to TMH.
The "B" squad makes the short trip to Smithboro for their reserve league Div 3 game with Eire Óg on Saturday evening next which is scheduled for a 6.30pm throw in.
The minor squad will be hoping to have got their campaign in the Division 2 minor league off to a successful star when they crossed swords with Patrick Emmetts on Tuesday night. The Aghabog/Currin combination will certainly be no push over, powered as they are by some exceptional young talented players in both clubs, but we a few spirited and gifted lads worth watching too, should be an interesting encounter. Next week they travel to Toome to face the joint forces of the home club and Doohamlet, our boys will have to perform to the highest level if the are to gain points from these two openers. Note starting time for both games is 7.00pm,as always support would be most welcome.
Juvenile round up.
The club's Under10 squad travelled to Cloghan last weekend for a Go Games Blitz, and had a very enjoyable time, equipping themselves very well and although the result of these conditions games are of no importance, at least one young participant was heard to boast we "won two and lost one". On Saturday 18th April it's the turn of the Under 8 squad to travel to the same venue for a similar Go games exercise. The second session for those involved in coaching under 8 & 10 takes place in the complex on Tuesday night 7th April at 7.30pm. Facilitators for the course Paul O Connor (FDM) ably assisted by Colin Malone and Paul Turley are leaving no stone unturned to deliver the coaching message and judging by reports from the inaugural session these are must attend exercises. Coaching as usual Wednesday evening from 6.30 to 7.30pm and on Saturday mornings from 10.00 -11.00am. for all our U8 & 10's
The Under 12 squad travel to Inniskeen on Saturday next for their game with the Grattan youngsters at 3.30pm. Bus timetable and assemble points as arranged with team mentors.
The Under 14 side put in a good team performance last Saturday and over came Doohamlet in the process, but despite running out comfortable winners there are plenty of area in need for improvement. No doubt coaches Martin, Barry, and Jerome will be working on these areas in the coming weeks and will be demanding full attendance at their regular coaching sessions on Tuesday evenings at 7.00pm. They also have a friendly game fixed for Wednesday evening 8th at TMH against Truagh at 7o clock. It important that all squad members are available to participate both nights. The lack of number in our Under 16 panel was brought sharply into focus when the squad travel to St Tierneach's Park to take on Clones. Absentees and injuries restricting the side to regulation numbers and while those lined out tried heroically they were no match for a rampant Clones out outfit. They will be hoping for a change in fortune for their journey to Doohamlet on Fri 17th April when the face the combined might of Cuchullains the Doohamlet /Toome side. Coaching sessions continue this week at the usual times.
The club would like to wish James McAleer and Shane Larkin a speedy recovery from their respective injuries.

Adult Squads
Our reserve "C" squad gained two useful league points when they travelled to Rooskey on Saturday last for their joust with Monaghan Harps. This was a good all round team performance but it was Gary Larkin who stole the show following his interval introduction, bagging three goals and a couple of points to insure his side ran out comfortable winners in the end. Next Sunday at 5 o clock they entertain Killanny at TMH in their unplayed game from a couple of weeks ago.
On Sunday morning last half way through the second half the "B" squad appeared to be coasting to the finish line but opponents Corduff had other ideas; with that finish line in sight our boys introduced a couple of substitutions, unfortunately they failed to get to the pace of the game handing the initiative and a foothold to the visitors around the middle of the field, under increasing pressure the defence finally cracked allowing Corduff in for an all important match winning goal. This was a harsh lesson for all concerned, 'cause on this occasion it definitely looked like two points that got away.
The first team opens their Dr Ward Cup fixture programme on Sunday next when they travel to Blackhill for a 2.30pm throw in. The club are back in junior football after an absence of seventeen years, while the current panel have never sampled this grade of football before, they will be well cautioned by manager Benny Kieran that they will have to play consistently well over the course of the season if the are to realise their stated intention of regaining promotion. The squad is quietly confident but only time and performances will tell if that confidence is indeed justified. The league and championship in this grade has been in the past the grave yard for many teams with lofty ambitions a fact our boys will be well aware off, a case then of proceeding with caution. Our big loyal band of supporter will certainly be hoping they can deliver on Sunday and get this campaign off on the right note with a victory. Hopefully that support will turn out in strength to give the team all the support and encouragement they can. Training sessions for all adult panels continue on Tuesday and Friday nights at 8.00pm.
On Tuesday night at TMH our minor squad commence their '09 league division 2 campaign when they take on Patrick Emmetts in a 7.00pm start. All squad members are reminded that training continues at the usual time and everyone on the panel is asked to make a special effort to attend this early morning session.
Juvenile round up.
The Our Under 8 & 10 panels are put through their coaching and games programme on Wednesday evening from 6.30 to 7.30pm and on Saturday mornings from 10.00 -11.00am.
The Under 12 squad proved to strong for visitors Clones on Saturday afternoon last at TMH and although the final score line was flattering, it doesn't begin to tell how close this game really was, the Clones youngsters matching our boys in most departments except on the scoreboard. These lads have a break from action this week-end but coaching continues at the usual time.
The Under 14 side travel to Doohamlet on Saturday next, hoping to double their tally of league points. Starting time is 3.30pm, bus departure schedule and assembly points is as arrange with the management.
The Under 16 side also begin their campaign this week on Friday night they travel to St Tierneach's Park to take on Clones, throw in for this round 1 game is 6.45pm for all other rounds the starting time will be 7 o clock.

Our reserve "B" squad made a successful journey to Aughnamullen on Saturday after noon last, getting the better of the locals in a closely contested game. Fintan Mc Kenna's powerful display in defence helping immensely to tilt the balance in our boys favour, as did the performance of young Darren Keely who caught the eye repeatedly.
Next Sunday they are scheduled to play Corduff at TMH at 11.30am.
The C squad makes the short journey into town on Saturday to take on The Harps in Rooskey at 5 o' clock; all panel members are asked to make themselves available and to note the starting time.
The first team in preparation for their opening Dr Ward Cup fixture away to Blackhill on Sunday 5th April had another useful friendly at the weekend getting the better of their visitors at the finish. With the junior league commencing in just over a weeks time it important that everyone makes the effort to be present at the twice weekly coaching sessions on Tuesday and Friday nights at 8.00pm. Contact team manager Benny Kieran 087-2590604 if for some reason you are unable to attend.
Juvenile round up
Our Under 8's & 10's had their fun day away on Saturday last, some forty juveniles making the trip. Great club ambassadors that this exceptional well behaved group of young boy and girls are the days planned activities went off like clockwork everyone really enjoying themselves, even the adult supervisor Gerard, Declan and Sean finding time to relax and join them in their activities. Normal Wednesday evening and Saturday morning sessions resumed this week, with the complex out of bounds because of the big boxing tournament Saturdays 10 -11.00am session will be out on the field. An extra layer of clothing might be in order and don't forget the football boots.
The Under 12 squad have home advantage for the visit of Clones to TMH on Saturday next throw in time is 3.30pm, after their opening round defeat at the hands of Toome these youngsters will be doing all the can to get a win under their belt but the Clones youngsters will have similar designs on the two point up for grabs. Parental and family support would be much appreciated by this young brigade.
The U14 squad got off to a winning start on Saturday last at TMH, rocked by an early Aughnamullen goal they battled back strongly thanks to solid performances in defence from Conor Freeman and Mathew Mc Guirk, Ryan Mc Guinness in the middle of the field and up front from Luke Killoran and scorer in chief Sean Freeman.
Also at TMH on Saturday the minor squad had a good run out against a strong Monaghan harps side and although our boys ended up on the wrong side of the result it was a very worthwhile exercise. In this years minor panel coaches Colm Mc Mahon and Gary Larkin have a committed bunch of lads, if they carry their early commitment signs right through the season they have the potential to be a force to be reckoned with. Their division two competion begins in early April. Coaching session's times for this squad an the U16's for the coming week is as arranged with their management teams
All underage panels should attend these coaching sessions equipped with indoor and outdoor (runner/ boot) training gear, not forgetting their own individual bottled water supply.

Scór Anniversary Celebration.
Great night of celebration music song and dance in the Hillgrove on Friday night last marking the 40th anniversary of Scor. Among the many performers on the night were our own All Ireland winning dancing troupe who showed they had lost none of their magical footwork in the last decade. The octet were Ciara Clerkin, Paula Murphy- Maguire, Edel Mulligan-Linden, Michael Mc Mahon, Gregory Mc Mahon, Colin Forde, Mark Forde and a very able substitute for Olivia Mc Connon, Michelle Mulligan.
Boxing Tournament.
The place to be this Saturday night 28th March is the complex. Amateur boxing comes to club headquarters for the first time, oh there has often been plenty of boxing even blood spilled but rarely under the Marquis of Queensbury rules. Now it the ideal chance to see this noble art of self defence up close, Smithboro ABC have pulled out all the stops to ensure a big and entertaining night's programme; 19 scheduled bouts. Star attraction no doubt will be the Phil Furey David Nevin contest, Furey travelling all the way from England to take on the Mullingar man. Local lad Declan Murphy is paired with an opponent from Killtimagh in County Mayo, while brother Shane's opponent is a little closer to home; Castleblayney. As well as the Murphy boys much local interest will also centre on our own Christopher Hughes who steps into the ring with a opponent fighting out of the Oak Leaf boxing club in Derry City. Tickets are being snapped up. Door open at 7 o' clock with the first bout scheduled to get under way at 8.00pm.
Referee
Well done to Stephen Hagan who is the newest recruit to the club's refereeing panel.
Stephen took charge of his first official game that minor friendly with Monaghan Harps on Saturday last. He got through the game without incident even satisfying the beaten teams coaches Colm and Gary that's saying something; both grudgingly admitted "he did well", "naw he was just all right" praise indeed!!
Sadness
We were all greatly saddened to learn of the death of former club Chairman Eddie Murphy on St Patrick's day. The respect and regard Eddie was held in the club was well demonstrated by present and past players, officials and members who turned out in big numbers to form a guard of honour as his funeral cortege made its way to St Mary's church. His removal on Wednesday evening was indeed a sombre occasion for our club, adding to the poignancy was the relay of club pallbearers who carried his coffin from the entrance of the club grounds to the church, flanked as they were by the guard of honour. Club chairman Danny Clerkin in his graveside oration captured and expressed the feelings of everyone that were privileged to know and work with Eddie. May he rest in peace. The full text of the chairman's tribute can be view on our club website www.seanmcdermotts.net.
Disappointment
Not one to comment publicly on procedures or decisions within our association but I feel I must on this occasion, and express the views of my club's committee who feel very aggrieved and disappointed that the competition control committee choose to interpret the by-law for the postponement of our scheduled St Patrick's day game literally. Punishing us for showing the respect we believe is rightly due to former officers and especially so where a former club chairman's death is concerned. I have no doubt the club had its priorities right.
Seans Notes 19/03/09
Edward Murphy Club chairman 1963-73
Our club community was saddened to learn of the passing to his eternal reward of Edward James Murphy on St Patrick’s day. Edward James or Eddie of Ballagh as he was affectionately known by all in the club, had a life long interest in the Cumann Lúthchleas Gael. Eddie was installed as our second club chairman from 1963 - 73, a tenure that he took much satisfaction and pride in over the intervening years, watching as he did with interest the ongoing club development and growth. Although essentially a very private person, Eddie affable personality endeared him to all who knew him. Eddie enjoyed a good debate or discussion especially if the topic was football, his powers to accurately recollect incidents and facts bringing clarity and finality to oft times heated after bingo arguments in the complex on Monday nights.
While he will be sadly missed in our club his death will be acutely felt amongst his immediate neighbours, to the Mc Elvaney and Murphy families we tender our sincerest sympathy. Go ndeana Dia trocaire ar a anam.

Gala Dance.
Some two hundred and fifty club members and supporters packed the complex on Friday night last and had a very enjoyable night at the club's Annual Gala dance in the company of Peter Canavan, Cuthbert Donnelly, the Sam Maguire and Tom Markham cups. The big attendance listened attentively as the great man offered words of encouragement to the team despite their relegation setback last year, instancing the change in Tyrone's fortunes in recent years as an example of persistence. Other guest were Fintan and Eleanor Mc Kenna who tied the matrimonial knot in 2008, we wish them many years of married bliss together. Evelyn Conaty manager of the successful St Michael Cuman na mBunscoil winning team accepting a presentation to mark this achievement, paid tribute to the great support the school gets from the club. Patrick Kieran received a rousing reception when he was presented with the much sought after Mc Entee award as the 2008 club player of the year; fellow players select the recipient. Former club secretary Pat Beagan received a tremendous welcome when he was invited on stage to receive a presentation from the club in recognition of his Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann 2008 Gradam Ceol award, Club president Mickey Mc Mahon made the presentation to Pat.Presentation of the Division 4 winners medals were also made to the Kieran cup-winning panel. Runaí chontae Ailish Mc Entee paid tribute to the club's representatives on the various county sub committees and wished the club well in the year ahead. Chairman Danny Clerkin welcomed everyone to the function and was fulsome in his praise for the continuing support given to the club by so many in our local parish community, evident again he said by the tremendous turn out at this function. We were delighted to have Peter Canavan with us he said, and articulated the association Peter's dad and brother Pascal had with the club. He complimented Stephen Hagan, Niall Mc Guirk, Barry Treanor, and Laurence Strain for their effort and said it was no fault of theirs that the team had been relegated, adding that Laurence and Barry made their trice weekly trips from Omagh at minuscule cost to the club. See photos of the celebration elsewhere in this edition.
Adult Squads
Both our reserve teams recorded victories at the weekend, on Saturday at TMH the "C"s squad had seven point to spare over visitors Fergal O' Hanlons, that despite the town side winning the possession stakes in the second half but unable to convert that superiority into scores.
On Sunday morning again at TMH in an evenly contested encounter our "B" squad held out for a two point winning margin against visiting neighbours Aghabog. A David Treanor first half goal helping considerably to reduce the interval deficit to three points after the visitors raced into an early seven point lead thanks to a successfully converted penalty. Second half points from David Mc Entee(3 F), Nigel Mc Quillan (2), and one each from David Treanor, Colin Murphy, Shane O Neill and Stephen Mc Elvaney swung the result in our boys favour.
Next weekend sees the B team travel to Aughnamullen on Saturday at 3.30pm panellists please note this is an hour earlier than originally planned for on the fixture schedule. On Sunday at 2.30pm the “C” squad entertain Killanny who make the long journey to TMH.

Adult Teams - Our reserved “B” squad produced a much more workmanlike performance on Saturday last at TMH particularly in the opening thirty minutes. Despite a spirited second half revival from the visitors they held on for a slender two point victory on a score line of Seans 1 – 9 Clontibret 0 -10. It was thanks largely to a Dara Freeman first half goal dispatched with some finesse to the Clontibret net in a ten minute purple patch which saw our boys race into a six point lead. That goal proved to be the decisive score of the game and tilted the result in our lads favour at the final whistle.
On Wednesday night our C team travel to C’blayney for their deferred Saturday afternoon game with the Faughs under light at 8.00pm. This squad are also out on Sunday at 12 noon when they have an away fixture with Oram. With Monaghan playing Armagh in the athletic grounds in the Alianz Nation Football league at 2.30pm it important that this 12 o clocks game throws in on time.

To facilitate greater attendance this squad’s training session will be held on Tuesday evening this week at 7.00pm. This group sees their first 2009 competitive action on Saturday 21st March when Aughnamullen visit TMH for a 2.00pm thrown in.

It’s the tremendous support and good will that is generated and displayed by so many in our parish community that really make this celebration all worth while. We hope to see all our players, members, supporters and friends joint our two high profile guests for a night of fun and festivity to remember. Just one other thing to stress, stay late but come early, the meal will be served at 9.15 sharp.
Congratulation / Commiserations - Well done to the Monaghan Vocational team who over came Cork at the weekend booking their place in the Final against Galway in the process. We wish the panel and their back room team well in that one and hope they can negotiate this final hurdle and claim that All Ireland crown.
It was a case of hard luck for the Sem lads in Omagh on Friday night last, despite their gallant effort epitomised by our own Brian Mc Quaid at wing back (man of the match performance) St Macartan’s just couldn’t string scores together and on this occasion everything went so agonisingly close but on the wrong side of the uprights which must surely have added to their frustration.

Adult Teams - Our reserve C team got the season off to a winning start on Saturday last when they had five points to spare over visitors Toome.A peach of a goal and a brace of points from veteran Gary Larkin and three well taken point from Nigel Mc Quillan set our boys on their way in the first half. They had to withstand a second half blitz from the visitors though, and such was their dominance of the possession stakes in this period, that had they brought their shooting boots they surely should have had the half time deficit of nine point overhauled after ten minutes. But failing to find the target as they did our boys took full advantage and held on for a well-earned victory.
In the reserve league Division 3 opener on Sunday in Emyvale the home side proved far too strong for our second string, and were well worthy of the victory and indeed the winning margin. Our boys struggling to match the locals passion and determination on this occasion. The in form Emyvale forward division clinically punishing poor ball handling and erratic passing in our defence as they ran in four goals with ease. Hopefully much of these shortcomings can be eradicated over the coming weeks when the squad gets into outdoor training mode in earnest. With games coming thick and fast over the next few weeks they will have to compete much more forcefully and eliminate elementary errors if they are not to become the whipping boys of this division.
Our somewhat depleted first team put up a brave performance on Sunday against Ciaran Mulligan's Brookeboro, and although they ended up on the wrong side of the result Benny will be happy enough with the effort. He no doubt like the players will be looking forward to getting outdoor sessions up and running in the very near future where he can continue to improve fitness levels and concentrate on ball work.
Training sessions continue at the usual times this week
At time of going to press a number of changes to the original fixture schedule are in the pipeline, players should contact Enda/David to verify these provisional arrangements have been firm up.

Scór - Fortune didn't favour our representative in the scór seinsir semi finals in Scotstown on Sunday night last. Performing admirably as they did unfortunately they didn't make it through to the county final, non-the less we very much appreciate their willingness to participate on the clubs behalf and their valiant effort on the night. That county final takes place on Friday night 27th February in Corcaghan Community Centre.
Boxing Tournament - The Smithboro Boxing club's tournament scheduled for the complex in early March has had to be defer to later in the month, 28th March the rearrange date being mentioned but we will keep you posted on that score.

A tournament that is sure be a big crowd puller and attract much local interest, especially with the Murphy brother from Nahill, Declan and Shane on the card as well as the lion hearted Christopher Hughes also schedule to make his home town debut. We look forward to seeing all three local lads in action as well as all their Smithboro ABC colleagues. Don't forget to keep that Friday night free.

Adult Teams - Our adult squad had another useful run out last week when the entertained Drumlane at TMH, Benny electing to select two different teams for each half using his entire panel over the course of the hour, only a couple of individuals getting the opportunity to show their talent in both halves. A useful and constructive exercise and one that will have highlighted the area where more work is needed. Training continues as usual at the normal time, with a possibility of another friendly next Sunday. Both our reserves squads are in action next weekend so it's important that all first team players make themselves available if this friendly is still go ahead. Check with Benny for details of starting time and opposition.
Our reserve C team gets '09 competitive action under way on Saturday at 3.00pm when they have home advantage for the visit of Toome to TMH in the Paddy Kieran Reserve League Division 4 competition. As holders of this trophy they will be anxious to get off to a good start, and impress new manager Enda Murphy in the process, but nothing will be easy against a St Victors outfit that impressed last year.
On Sunday at 2.30pm our reserve B squad make their way to Emyvale for a tilt at the locals in the Mc Keown Cup Reserve League Div 3 competition. Our second string will have to display a little more composure than some displayed in last Sunday's friendly if they are to overcome this opening hurdle. Manager David Treanor will have realised this and hopefully he can adopt a game plan that will deliver two league points.

For a weekly outlay of €2, less if you opt for one of the multi draw options available, you could walk away with or share a weekly minimum jackpot of €1000. Envelopes and multidraw ticket are widely available, or can be had by contacting treasurer Mary Mc Connon or any committee member who will be delighted to include your name in this weekly Saturday night draw; if you're not in you can't win!

Seans Notes 12/02/09
Adult Teams - Training for our adult squad continues at the usual time this week, plans for an outdoor session had to be shelved last Sunday due to the arctic like conditions. Benny no doubt will be hoping weather conditions will be a little more favourable this week-end, panellists in any doubt as to the date, time or location of training should check with Benny. 087-2590604.
Plenty of games for our reserves teams this year, at the January County Committee meeting the reserves leagues were changed from single to double leagues. The idea being to extend the number of games and playing season for reserve squads, which will be a welcome advancement for players involved in these competitions. With more than 170 extra games to be fitted into any already busy programme, all members of our reserve Division 3 and 4 panels should by now have joined the first teams at their weekly fitness sessions. Games in these competitions will be getting underway in the coming weeks, and no doubt reserve team managers David Treanor and Enda Murphy are already making mental notes of any absentees.
Totto Results - The numbers 1,7,4,6,2,3,5 drawn last weekend were not correctly forecast. The €40 winner was Sadie Murphy Carnbane. The €20 prizes went to Paddy Mc Guinness Cornasoo, Derek Mc Mahon Killydonnelly, Niall Malone Kiltubrid, and Conor Mc Elroy Aughnacloy. Next weeks Jackpot is €1,400.

Sessions are indoors so no need to bring your boots along just yet. Adults interested in assisting with supervision or helping out in the coaching department at this or any of our other under age groups should make Youth Committee Chairman Enda Murphy aware of their availability. Enda is presently putting his coaching combinations together to look after the coaching need and development of our juvenile and minor panels. If there are additional resources out there to assist in this most important area in the club, Enda will be delighted to hear from you. There are many useful workshops currently being organised under the Monaghan coach education and development programme 2009 that will soon have new volunteers up to speed, not to mention the Foundation level coaching course scheduled for 6th and 7th March or at least the child protection element of this course which must be completed before becoming involved in juvenile coaching activities in the club

On Monday 16th Gerard Nolan imparts some of his considerable knowledge on Warm-ups when he explains to what is sure to be captive audience the theory and practical idea behind them. Both sessions commence at 7.30pm and are expected to conclude around 9.00pm. Targeted at coaches involved with under 14 to minor age groups I am sure the content of both workshops will be of value and interest to coaches at any level. As mentioned last week any of our under age coaches interested in attending any of these coach education and development sessions should get their names to Enda Murphy in the first instance,
Valentine Bingo - Due to the continuing bad weather and the treacherous road conditions prevailing last Monday night the committee decide in the interest of patron safety to cancel our Bingo session for a second week. Brian, Gerry, Benny & Co having all felt the effect of Cupids arrow admittedly many years ago! For our younger reader eagerly awaiting a clue to the identity of the Tyrone star bringing the Sam Maguire cup along that night.
He has a couple of All Ireland medals and is an All Star to boot. No correct answers received so far. The first reply came from Ashley Corrigan who thought it might be Sean Cavanagh, no its not the big Moy man, but for being quickest of the mark and prepared to have a guess Ashley gets himself on the prize winners list. Prizes are for the first three correct answers submitted. Text your answer to 085-1741779, or email to pro@seanmcdermott.net. remember to include your name on your replies.

Seans Notes 05/02/09
Adult Teams - Last Saturday at TMH our adult squad had a useful run out against Cavan side Drumgoon, and although our boys held a slight interval advantage they were eventally over hauled and the visitors just shaded the result at the finish. Manager Benny Kieran used the exercise to try out some of the younger members of the squad in new positions. Time will tell if they retain these positions or indeed if Saturdays line out bears any resemblance to the team that will take the field in a few weeks time for the first game of the year. Saturday's friendly was a very beneficial exercise and has given Benny plenty of food for thought as he deliberates on his best formation… still plenty of time for any of the panel to stake a claim to that first team place. Training continues this weekend as usual, again all panellist are encouraged to make the effort to be present
Totto Results - The numbers 3,1,5,6,2,4,7, drawn last weekend were not correctly forecast. We wish them well and hope both squads' progress in their respective competition. Drumquin is on the Castlederg road about six miles from Omagh
Juvenile in Croker - The thirty-six juveniles who travelled had a night to remember in Croke Park last Saturday; they were treated to an excellent game of football between Tyrone and Dublin. They also witnessed first hand the opening celebration, a spectacular fire works and lighting display marking the 125th anniversary of the founding of the GAA. All the youngsters are to be complimented on their willingness to take direction from adult group leaders; Aisling, Áine,Declan, Gerard, Stephen, Shane, Fergal, Brian, James, Martin, Enda, and Danny. Their co-operation contributed immensely to easy supervision and their safety despite being in the midst of one the largest sporting attendance's anywhere last weekend.
Coaching courses - The coaching workshop scheduled for Monday night last in Cloghan was deferred due to the sudden snow fall but the good news it that it will be reconvene at a later date. Under Monaghan GAA coach education and development programme 2009 a couple of very useful workshops are planned over the next two weeks, on Wednesday 11th and Monday 16th February. The principle of Defensive Play takes centre stage next Wednesday night 11th, then on the 16th Warm ups-Theory and Practical Ideas behind them will be delivered by county team physio Gerard Nolan. Roger Keenan is the facilitator for Wednesday night's session. The venue for both workshops is Cloghan and the starting time is 7.30pm. These workshops are targeted at coaches involved with under 14 to minor age groups. Last weekend foundation level course was booked out, if you missed it don't panic another is planned for Fri 6th and Sat 7th March. Any of our under age coaches interested in attending any of these coach education and development sessions should get their names to Enda Murphy in the first instance.

As has been the custom for the past few years' celebrations will again take place in the complex. A guarantee guest is the Sam Maguire Cup accompanying the All Ireland trophy will be a very special Tyrone footballer. For our younger readers we will run a little quiz, all they have to do is name that Tyrone star. Not much to go on this week, but I'll give a wee clue to his identity over the coming weeks. The first three correct answers submitted will each receive a prize. Worth a guess even at this stage! Text your answer to 085-1741779, or email to pro@seanmcdermott.net. Boys and girls don't forget to include your name on your replies.
