Seans Notes 09/12/10
AGM
There was a good turnout at the AGM on Friday night, despite the polar conditions. Chairman Gerry Lynch opened proceedings. Our outgoing secretary Sean Mc Elvaney then outlined the Club activities throughout the year. Sean remarked he had great delight in reporting on the promotion back to Intermediate ranks for our adult football team, as over the last few years he had to give a blow by blow account on our demise from senior football to junior football. Sean praised the work and commitment of the whole team including players and mentors. Sean commented that what spurred the team on after their disappointing performance in the championship at the knockout stages in August was the team’s realisation that to reach their potential they had to look to the future and take individual responsibility. Sean also thanked all those who assisted him in his role as secretary over the last number of years. The secretary’s report can be read in full at www.seanmcdermotts.net
Treasurer Cyril Kieran delivered the Financial Report for the club. A sustained level of fundraising will be required to continue with future capital developments. The success of the community led approach to the sale of weekly Totto was commended. He quoted our outgoing PRO as he identified community and voluntary activity in the club as pivotal to its current financial situation.
Gerry Lynch delivered a concise chairmans report. He alerted us to the fact that our jackpots for both Totto and Bingo are very attractive and may not last much longer, (about half an hour to be precise). Gerry complimented all those who help in the running of the club, be it on the field of play, or doing important jobs such as car parking at bingo, to keeping the playing surface in excellent playing order. Danny enlightened us on his few years in office and stated that to hold chairman of your own club is the greatest privilege of them all, and it is the people and friends that you meet through football that makes it all worthwhile.
Juvenile Secretary Nigel Lynch gave an accurate account on our juveniles and was delighted to report on the success of the under 12 division 2 and 5 teams and the under 13’s who captured the Friday night October football blitz under lights. In juvenile football one could say not everything that counts, can be counted and not everything that can be counted, counts. The most important part of juvenile football is not necessarily winning but the participation as part of a team, winning is the icing on the cake. Juvenile Chairman Enda Murphy welcomed anybody interested in assisting with juvenile football. Simple things like doing an umpire at a match, organising jerseys or coaching a team are all important jobs that help with the running of juvenile football.
After white smoke on Friday night a new committee was formed:
Chairman: Gerry Lynch, Vice-Chair: Ciaran Mc Entee, Treasurer: Cyril Kieran, Secretary: Deferred, Irish Language and Culture: Rosaleen Mc Elvaney, Registrar: Enda Murphy, PRO: David Treanor, Players Representative: Derek Mc Mahon.
Committee: Pauline Kearns, Nigel Lynch, Carmel Mc Quaid, Sean Murphy, Rodney Perkins, Brian O’ Neill.
Totto
Santa Claus arrived early for one family in the parish as they predicted the winning sequence of: 5-2-1-3-6-8-7-4,in the weekly Totto, and in doing so collected themselves the princely sum of €8800. A great time of year to be the bearers of good news to the Mc Kenna Girls, Urblekirk, Dunraymond. We congratulate them on their winnings and hopefully they enjoy their slice of good fortune.
The €20 winners were:-
Paula Maguire, Dunraymond; Martin Tierney, Tattenclave; Grainne and Paddy Hughes, Castleshane; Brendan Leonard, Lisgall; Niamh Mc Mahon, Killydonnelly; Mark Mc Entee, Cabra; Monica Mc Phillips, Hollywood; Aidan Mc Cabe, Cootehill; James Coyle, Mullinavannog;R. Cassidy, Lecklevera; Joan Mc Cabe, Tatenclave.
As a result next week’s Jackpot will commence at the handsome some of €5000, which will take place this Saturday night due to the cancellation of Bingo last Monday night.
Scor na nOg
Our junior competitors in the scor performed well in the ceili dancing but lost by the narrowest of margins to Scotstown. We commend them on their endeavours and we all hope they do one better next year. For the record our competitors were: James Murphy, Killian Murphy, Sarah Mc Kenna, Shane Maguire, Caoimhe Mc Mahon, Aoife Mc Elvaney, Niamh Mc Mahon, Shannon Mulligan. A special word of thanks must go to Edel and Michelle Mulligan who mentored these youngsters. Sometimes you have to lose one in order to really appreciate winning and I hope this will be the case.
Bingo
Hopefully the weather man will give the all clear for Bingo next Monday night and in doing so promises that Spot Prizes will be the order of the night. We will listen attentively to Northern Sound next Monday to let us know the good news. A nice way to quickly gather up a nest egg for Christmas as the jackpot is approaching €12000.
Christmas Party
The club’s Christmas party will take place on Saturday 18th December, in the club lounge, which will also feature the local launch of Conor Mc Morrow’s recent publication ‘Dáil Stars’. With work Christmas parties in short supply , plenty of local support is anticipated.
Sympathy
The club extends sympathy to Eddie Masterson on the death of his father John, and also to the Shuel family on the death of Tommy. Tommy was a regular bingo player and also was known to don the number one jersey in his playing days. May they rest in peace.
