Mens Junior Championship
Our day in the sunshine in Scotstown on Sunday last was not to be. To reach the final this year has been a huge stepping stone for the team, and we must not lose sight of that. On the day, Emyvale proved to be a jump too far for the lads despite their gallant efforts. The fifteen lads that started and those that were later introduced during the game didn’t shirk their responsibilities on the field. They merely came up against a very much in form Emyvale team who had a proven record all season. The game was tense and there were flashes of play that showed how and why we had made it to the finale, but alas, it just wasn’t enough. The Club would like to sincerely thank the complete Management Team, lead by Mickey McMahon, who have given enormous time and effort to make it to the top. To the players, we cannot fault your efforts and from this we are sure that it will only serve to make them better for next year. Defeat is never easy to take in the closing stages of any competition but on the day, we can have no regrets that we gave it our all and we were beaten by the better team on the day.

What a day Saturday was for the parish and our two national schools as they had reached their respective finals of the schools football competition. First up was St. Michaels, Corcaghan, who took on Latnamard NS. From the off, St. Michaels were strong all over the pitch and stamped their authority early on with a brace of goals and points. With a cushion for the second period, they were able to see out a memorable victory for them in the competition. St. Mary’s, Threemilehouse were next up as they took on Mullaghrafferty NS, from Magheracloone. This was a much more physical affair with both sides going at it from the throw in. The opposition made good their efforts and were five points in front at the break. With all to play for, St. Mary’s went for broke and wave after wave of attacks secured a score. However, Mullaghrafferty were not for giving up and they too tagged on scores to bring us to level pegging with seconds remaining. It would take a long range free kick by Threemilehouse, which sailed gracefully over the bar, to make the win. The final whistle brought the cheers from the team and their families. Victory by a point was a huge result and title number two for the parish on the day. The Club would like to congratulate both schools on their performances and the commitment by the teachers and staff to promote the sport. Well done.
