Intermediate Championship

With the visit of Monaghan Harps on Sunday, game two in the championship was always going to be a tense affair. It started slow and tentative, with early points exchanged, however the Harps tagged on three in a row and went ahead mid-way in the half. Our chances were few but a good run and finish produced a goal to push the Seans in front on twenty minutes. With another point scored we were three scores to the good half time. The introduction of the subs bench, in the second half, gave us a new drive as the Harps had clawed their way back into the game. However, a goal on twenty minutes, pushed the visitors to the front and they now had the smell of victory in their noses. The old adage of never say die came rushing to the fore in the final ten minutes and the Seans piled on the pressure in the Harps half of the field. Three unanswered points, from the lads, had secured the draw with only seconds remaining. But the juggler was in sight and after a number of plays a free was manufactured in the scoring zone. This was duly converted and Ref had no further time to offer a restart. A victory in this manner will hopefully build confidence. Two wins from three games hasn’t quite secured our status but we travel to Blackhill on Sunday week to close off the group stages of the championship and hopefully another victory.

U13’s

The 13’s went down to a very strong Aghabog side on Saturday last. This first game in the Championship was a step up from the league, but all is still to play for as they take a break for one week until the next round.

U15’s

The 15’s entertained Latton on Thursday last, in round one of the championship. After a very slow start from the home team, and playing catch up, they took a grip of the game and began to take their scores. A much improved second half closed out the victory. They now head to Inniskeen on Thursday evening at 7.15pm

U17’s

The 17’s championship began on Monday night away to St. Finbarrs , in Doohamlet. Once again, nothing really between both sides in the opening half, however James McCabe was forced off with a head injury and this somewhat disrupted the plans. With only a point in it at half time, a poor start from us, gave Finbarrs a goal and point in the opening minutes of the second period. From there we were chasing the game, and with an injury to Conan McKenna, it left a mountain to climb. That said, the players plugged away at the scoreboard, but in the end the goal was the difference for a three point defeat. Next up is a must win tie, at home to Cremartin, next Monday night.
